The Model
The Jaguar XK150, produced from 1957 to 1961, was the final evolution of Jaguar’s classic XK series. Sleeker and more refined than its predecessors, it introduced four-wheel disc brakes for the first time on a production car, helping it earn a reputation as truly groundbreaking. A worthy successor to the XK120 and XK140 that came before it, the XK150 was considered more refined and practical, with journalists praising its comfort and touring ability. Today, it is regarded as the most well-sorted and usable of the XK lineage, combining classic style with a more enjoyable driving experience.
This Car
The example offered here is the 3.4-litre straight-six. Originally supplied to the US, this left-hand drive car was re-imported to the UK by its current owner in 2015, along with several others. The US was the largest export market for Jaguar and the XK150, where buyers loved its mix of style, performance, and luxury. While many American buyers chose the automatic version, this example benefits from the desirable 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, making it ideal for spirited driving as well as longer journeys. Being left-hand drive, it is perfectly suited to those who spend time driving on the continent.
The car has recently undergone extensive work at renowned classic Jaguar specialist WinSpeed of Guildford, with invoices totalling over £15,000, primarily mechanical, to ensure it performs superbly. As part of the works, the owner fitted an electric power steering system to enhance usability. Importantly, this has been done sympathetically, allowing for easy removal should the next custodian prefer originality.
Although not presented to concours standards, it shows exceptionally well and is very much a car to use and enjoy without fear of picking up a stone chip. Around the car there are a handful of minor blemishes to the paintwork, most notably on the offside bonnet edge where a small patch has rubbed through. Overall, the paint retains a good lustre and shine, while the brightwork remains in excellent condition. The interior too presents well, with an authentic finish and a lovely patina.
All documentation has carefully compiled in a custom file inscribed with XK150 and matching the colour of the car.
Final Overview
We believe this to be a very usable example of the XK150 — ideal for continental touring thanks to its left-hand drive configuration and overdrive transmission. It represents a fine opportunity: a car ready to be thoroughly enjoyed as is, or equally suitable as the basis for a full restoration. Naturally, the car has been priced accordingly.
As always, all our cars are kept on-site and are available to view by appointment. If you are considering an XK150, we highly recommend viewing this example to fully appreciate it. Please call us for further details or to arrange an appointment.
