Description
Authenticity..
It is often a sought-after ingredient when purchasing an iconic classic car. The desirability of the 1967-68 Mustang Fastbacks rocketed since their use as “Hero Cars” in films such as “Bulllit” with Steve McQueen and “Gone in 60 Seconds” with Nicolas Cage, only making them even more collectible and therefore valuable.
This rare factory GT Fastback finished in the glossy Raven Black and Blue Décor Bucket Seats, includes the “GT Equipment Group” Full details of which are listed in the accompanying Marti report. Further options include a louvered hood, sport deck folding rear seats for hauling larger loads, in particular Golf Clubs – as that was the reason Ford introduced it! A centre console, power disc brakes and steering, AM/FM “Side-bar stereo – which although currently not working will be supplied with the car, “Interior Décor Group” updated for 1968 with wooden inserts, tinted glass, and the ultra-rare option of a tilt away steering column which is still fully operational!
The restoration did include a few enhancements to make the car more drivable by modern standards and now offers a new, date correct 390Ci (6.3litre) V8 and upgraded 5 speed TKX gearbox over the original 4 speed for improved fuel economy and drivability., with a hydraulic clutch for easier gear changes. A POR treated fuel tank to overcome unwanted matter in the fuel intake and the installation of a “Comp Cams” camshaft has been fitted to “liven up” throttle response and help to stabilise idle speeds.
Will you be lucky enough to own a factory GT model which is as rare as this one? The collectability factor dramatically increases its desirability! So just how rare is this car I hear you ask?! In 1968 317404 Mustangs rolled off the production lines. Only 42581 were Fastbacks and only 12087 of these were built with the GT Equipment Group. Further still, only 1516 units were produced with this paint code and out of these only 6 were built with the blue interior trim, this is one of those 6 cars. As to whether the other 5 still exist is open to question! - So it “may” now be the “Fabled One of One”. Built at the Metuchen Plant in Philadelphia and sold via Royal Ford in the same county which is where the car spent most of its life with its first owner! In 1996 it was brought over to Norway and then to the UK in 2015 by its current owner.
A full detailed Marti Report confirms the fitted items and originality of this lovely Fastback together with its comprehensive provenance, build sheets and bill of sale further add to its appeal. More details can be provided on request. Sadly, for the owner, a change of personal circumstances requires letting “The Duchess” go.
The current owner’s focus was to authentically add to this car and to replicate as near as possible its factory spec as much as can be achievedtoday that along with our team's knowledge and experience, have produced results that speak for themselves! A truly faithful, authentic and no expense spared restoration which must be physically seen and experienced to be appreciated properly! Although we’d be sad to see “The Duchess” leave our shop, it’s your turn to enjoy her company!
