Highly sought after M119.60 5.0 V8 without catalytic converters, making it the most powerful of all the 500 model 129s (326bhp). This is the same engine they used in the Porsche developed 500E, which was often cited to have more power than the numbers suggested.

3 previous long-term owners from new with full-service history from the beginning. Maintained by its supplying dealer with 15 service and maintenance visits, followed by another 10 visits to highly regarded Mercedes SL Specialist Colin Ferns. Nearly £2000 has been spent this year alone on a full service, new distributor and rotor arms, as well as a professional wheel refurbishment. All the important jobs have been done in recent years including the soft top hydraulics.

The car is in excellent condition throughout, it has been garaged for at least the last 20 years. The wheels are the correct “Gullideckle” which have been professionally refurbished by Lepsons at considerable cost, they wear the correct Continental MO (Mercedes Original) tyres. All the electrics work, and the air conditioning is ice cold (thanks to new condensers, drier and a re-gas). The original hardtop is also in excellent condition. The original grease on all hinges is still visible.

Whilst this is an early car, it was specified with a drivers airbag, as well as rear seats, heated front seats, air conditioning, ASR (Traction control), a 6 speaker sound system, electrically adjustable steering column and interior rear view mirror, as well as under carriage door lights. Fortunately, it wasn’t specified with the complex air suspension system.

It drives wonderfully, there is something more “Old school” about the earlier V8 engine, it’s more vocal and has characteristics of a muscle car. It’s also surprisingly quick – much quicker than you would accept.

It is supplied with its original book back, 3 sets of keys, the complete tool kit, spare wheel, first aid kit, a car cover, the wind deflector, The original service book and owner’s manual, as well as the original brochure, the build sheet, colour chart, supplementary specification, the price list, the original dealer advert from when it was a year old, almost every invoice from new, including every MOT. It comes with its original supplying dealer number plates, key ring and the original dealer fit Sony cassette/radio.

It is being sold because we’ve barely used it (less than 200 miles this year).

Whilst the car is in excellent condition, it is almost 36 years old.
