HONDA INTEGRA TYPE-R 16V 1998
The DC2 Integra needs little in the way of introduction, being widely held as one of the best drivers’ cars, declared the best front-wheel drive car ever and awarded 5 stars by Evo.
For sale is my much cherished 1998 UKDM DC2 Integra Type R, owned since 2011. Non A/C model (although this can be retrofitted if desired - I’ve enquired and parts are easily available). Plaque number 00029. Championship White body and wheels, with red Alcantara Recaro bucket seats as standard.
It has been garaged since 2017 and SORN’d over the winter months. It has previously been a daily driver for me, but has been a second car for many years. It gets regular use in the summer, but has covered only 5000 miles in the last 5 years, for 130k miles overall. I’ve taken it to Pistonheads Sunday Services in the past.
It is in excellent condition, has been meticulously maintained in my ownership, and is unmodified. It has had lots of mechanical items replaced as described below, usually preventatively and to keep the car feeling mechanically good. Where issues have arisen, I’ve been proactive in fixing them quickly. It is well known to TGM Sport in Fleet, where larger work has been carried out, but otherwise serviced and maintained locally.
It failed its MOT last year on emissions, but this is now fully resolved and was simply due to an inadequate lambda sensor. In the process of diagnosing this, I replaced the catalytic converter, temperature sensors, manifold pressure sensor, fuel tank scavenger pump, idle air control valve and had the timing checked. Eventually we found that the car (and Hondas in general) are very sensitive to lambda sensors, and the Bosch one that I tried was the source of the problem. An NGK one solved this problem immediately, and all emissions are well within normal readings now. The car will therefore come with a spare catalytic converter and temperature sensors.
It drives brilliantly (and always has), starting easily every time, and handles exceptionally. It pulls cleanly through the rev range, with VTEC engaging strongly at 5500rpm with a distinct change in engine note, up to the red line of 9000rpm. It idles perfectly and doesn’t hunt around or flare. It doesn’t burn any oil. It comes with two keys and two working alarm key fobs.
It has an extensive service history from new, fully documented with corresponding photos and MOTs back to 2002, contained within 3 binders as shown. The car can come with a USB containing all the photos of the car and work that has been done in my ownership. I will also include multiple magazines, an original sales brochure, and complete book pack as shown.
Going through the car and work that has been done:
Suspension and steering: Complete suspension and steering rebuild in 2013 at approx 85k miles. Front and rear, including Hard-race bushes, new track rods (inner and outer), ball joints, drop links, and genuine Honda springs and dampers (rear springs needed to be made as they were no longer supplied by Honda). This made a huge difference to how the car felt on the road, now very responsive and accurate.
Gear shift: linkage upgraded to polyurethane bushes, which has made the shift even more precise across the short throw. The titanium gear knob is in excellent condition with clear numbers in red.
Brakes: braided lines and Ferodo DS2500 pads, new discs recently. Brake fluid frequently changed with DOT4. New master cylinder 2013. Brakes feel very strong, and no ABS warning lights which is very common on these cars.
Wheels: Refurbed 2016 in Championship White. Michelin Pilot Sport 3s all round. These clean up brilliantly with IronX.
Exhaust: I upgraded the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter to Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) specification when the original back box became too rusty (photos included). It has a custom stainless-steel exhaust from the catalytic converter back (pictures of it being built on the car available). This made the car much more responsive as the revs rise, and made the engine note sharper, especially into VTEC. The UK manifold is cast iron rather than tubular, hence the car responds well to the Japanese setup.
Body work: The rear arches have been rebuilt twice due to rust by TGM in my ownership, last a few years ago. I have photos taken before and after, and many of the work in progress. There is currently no rust within the rear arches, and the car isn’t driven in the rain or through the winter. Bodywork is otherwise in good condition, but with a few expected marks in keeping with its age and mileage. I’m happy to provide further images of the bodywork in detail if required. New badges and stickers all round, which really lift the car as a lot are very faded with age.
Clutch: new in 2012 at 88k miles. Braided clutch line & new slave cylinder fitted 2016.
Engine mounts: upgraded to Innovative items in 2015, which are slighter firmer than standard, but still very suitable to regular road use. This again improved the feel of the gear change as engine and gearbox were held more firmly in alignment, but without added transmission of vibration into the car.
Engine: K&N air filter. Cambelt last done 2020 at 125k miles. Valve clearances last checked May 2025. Compression test in 2018 was within normal ranges. New starter motor and radiator 2016. Terracleaned in 2013 (approx 90k miles). Cam cover recently resprayed in correct crackle finish VHT red (pictures available of before & after). New battery this year.
Interior: Original driver’s seat lower bolster foam was replaced early in my ownership. A very small tear can be seen in the driver’s seat central fabric, again predating my ownership of the car. Otherwise excellent condition. New bespoke floor and boot mats ordered based on the originals and provided by Hamilton Classic near Reading. The originals will come with the car. Momo steering wheel.
No test drives without proof of insurance.
I am located in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. I’m in no rush to sell and would like it to go to an enthusiastic owner.
