These Giugiaro designed coupe’s still look as sharp as a well cut Italian suit 50 years after their design. And with their twin-cam 2.0 engine, 5-speed gearbox, and rear mounted transaxle, they are the epitome of a classic Alfa, with sparkling performance and sharp handling.

It’s an original UK RHD car, not an import.

This one is one of the more desirable pre-1980 models, with the slimline chrome bumpers and, apart from the fitting of the optional alloy wheels, seems to be in factory spec.

Lift the bonnet and you’re confronted with Alfa’s famous 1962cc twin cam motor, which looks as good as it both sounds and performs – it’s a legendary engine, and this one has an odometer reading of 99900 miles..

It has a lovely history and provenance. We have the original stamped service book, old MOT’s back to the late 1980’s and 30000 miiles, and a handwritten diary detailing every expenditure from 1980 to 1998.

In the late 1990’s it was owned by a well-known motoring journalist, and it’s trials and tribulations were featured in the ‘our cars’ section of Classic Cars.

We have paperwork showing it was ‘highly commended’ at the Alfa Owners Club national concours awards – this isn’t dated, but is likely to have been just after it emerged from a bare-metal restoration in 2008, which has been fully documented in a hardback book. Nearly 20 years on, the paintwork is showing one or two inevitable blemishes, but it still looks really sharp overall

The engine was fully rebuilt at the same time, and again this is documented. The mileage was then 97000.

Thereafter it’s been used sparingly, and has undergone lots more remedial work over the intervening period. Recent highlights include a cylinder head rebuild with new valve guides and seats, refaced head, and new head gasket etc in 2020 (done by an Alfa specialist), and a brake rebuild, carbs overhauled, and the fuel tank relined, all in 2024.

All in all it represents an excellent entry into classic Alfa ownership
