Description
Exquisite 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante Concours Winner
Stratton Motor Company is delighted to present this magnificent Concours-winning 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Mk1 Volante, finished in unblemished Bahama Yellow with a contrasting black leather interior. Widely regarded as one of the finest examples in existence, this car offers unparalleled heritage and craftsmanship.
A Legacy of Excellence
The DB6 Volante owes its lineage to the vision of David Brown, who steered Aston Martin from the racetrack to a more commercially sustainable path. The journey began with the iconic DB4 in 1958, designed by the Italian studio Carrozzeria Touring and powered by an engine from renowned engineer Tadek Marek.
Through evolutionary refinements, the DB4 gave way to the DB5 and ultimately the DB6, with enhancements including increased dimensions, a larger engine, and aerodynamic advancements like the signature Kamm-style rear spoiler, reflecting the eras higher-speed motoring demands.
WMF38G A Rare and Distinguished Heritage
This particular car, WMF38G, is among the final DB6 Mk1 Volantes produced before the launch of the MkII. Sold new in 1969 by H.R. Owen in London, it initially belonged to a Greek businessman before being relocated to Greece in 1972. It returned to the UK in 1979, joining the private collection of a Suffolk entrepreneur who ensured its preservation in a heated garage.
Meticulously maintained over the decades, including servicing by Ian Mason Aston and major work by Aston Martin Works Service in Newport Pagnell, the cars legacy is one of continuous care and refinement.
Restoration to Perfection
In 2016, the car was acquired by Roger Bennington of Stratton Motor Company, who undertook a meticulous and exhaustive body-off restoration. Originally dressed in Dubonnet Red with a Natural leather interior, the car now dazzles with its period-correct Bahama Yellow coachwork, famously featured in the TV series The Persuaders, complemented by a luxurious new black leather interior and hood.
The restoration spanned several years and included:
Comprehensive Mechanical Overhaul: A ground-up rebuild of all components, including the gearbox, axles, and seals.
Engine Upgrade: In 2020, Aston Engineering rebuilt the engine, increasing capacity to 4.2 litres, delivering an impressive 281 bhp and 296 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm.
Attention to Detail: A forensic approach to craftsmanship, employing modern materials and techniques to achieve a standard arguably surpassing the original build quality.
This restoration, costing approximately 270,000, has resulted in a car that is as close to perfection as possible.
A Collectors Dream
Equipped with a desirable 5-speed ZF gearbox, factory-fitted power steering, three-ear hub caps, and an electric aerial, this DB6 Volante has covered just 75,000 miles. It is one of only 140 long-wheelbase DB6 Volantes ever produced, further cementing its exclusivity and allure.
With wider chrome wire wheels and a stunning presence, this DB6 Volante is not merely a car but a piece of automotive artistrya true investment for the discerning collector or enthusiast.
To appreciate its beauty and craftsmanship is to see it in person. A timeless icon awaits its next chapter.
