The series, known for its innovative technology and timeless design, was initially powered by the engine line-up based on that of the outgoing W111 model. Available with either a four-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, the car's advanced features, such as air suspension, power-assisted steering, and four-wheel disc brakes, were considered cutting-edge for the time and contributed to its reputation for exceptional performance and ride comfort.
