Description
2002 Morgan 4/4 Le Mans 62 Chassis no … D11477, the 77th of
40 made numbered 41-80, the first 40 numbers, as you know, going to the +8 version.
It has one owner, an octogenarian friend of mine from college days 55 years ago,
who used it as his only car day in and day out from collecting it at the Morgan factory in
2002. The letter of invitation to order the car which he received from Morgan is in the very
extensive history file.
It has covered 193000 miles, has not been resprayed and has been very regularly
serviced exclusively at Norfolk’s Morgan Main Dealer - Stratton Motor Company in
Norwich. There is a file of receipts for repair and maintenance completely covering the last
22 years. The only advisory on the last MOT was a slightly worn seat belt!
The mechanical condition is excellent and indeed is has had £28,700 spent at Stratton
Motor Company on repairs, maintenance and servicing since 2020. In addition, it had a
brand new engine (same as original) fitted at 100,000 miles.
The bodywork and chassis are in good condition and the paintwork is original, now
showing some small signs of aluminium oxidation on the edges of the front and rear wings
and around some of the badges. There has been an unsympathetic repair to the location
of the side lamps on each wing. Interior is good with the exception of a worn hole in the
leather driver’s seat bolster. It comes with a factory hardtop in the correct colour and a
recent hood, handmade to original pattern at a cost of over £1500.
In my view it’s an ideal rare candidate for a light sympathetic renovation of the paintwork.
