Cool, rare and desirable - The Consul Capri is also one of the most stylish and elegant designs to come out of Dagenham.

The 1960s were a time of great opportunity. After a period of austerity following World War II, the Jet Age had an impact on consumer goods as a result of growing prosperity. With styling cues taken straight from their American car division, the 1961 Consul Capri provided British consumers with the same glamour on a level suited to home-grown roads. The stylish Consul Capri, which had pillar-less windows and a distinctive sweeping design, was regarded as the Ford lineup's most distinctive model. In 1963, Ford also introduced the more potent Consul Capri GT. The engine was developed with Cosworth and had a modified twin-carburettor 1498cc engine, it also featured improved interior trim and instrument cluster. Just 2002 Consul Capri's were produced, making it one of Ford's rarest cars. It also brought a little glitz to the Ford lineup before its better-known namesake revolutionised the sporting coupe of the 1970s.

One of the last models to have been produced, this July 1964 Consul Capri GT is finished in red with a taupe interior. It has only had 3 former registered keepers and has been kept unused in dry storage since 1986. A solid and complete restoration project, this car starts, rolls, and is smartly presented — and having been off the road for the past 39 years, it offers an exciting opportunity for an enthusiast to get it back on the road.
