1974 ROVER 3500

Motodrome offer this rather nice Rover P6b, a 1974 3500S, finished in the oh so period 1970’s scheme of Mexico Brown with brown vinyl roof with contrasting box pleat interior.

P6’s, with their high level of engineering, are supremely useable for a classic in modern traffic, and this is an example of the most desirable variant of the Rover P6, the 3500S with the manual gearbox

The odometer reads 77000 miles and we have history back to 1985, and old paper-style MOT’s back to 1977 when it had done 19177 miles. The paper MOT certificates we hold thereafter up to 1998 show a consistent gradual increase in the mileage up 65855 miles.

Ownership wise, we know it had only two owners from new up until 2003, when it passed through the hands of a dealer in Yorkshire. It was featured in a Classic Car Weekly ‘chasing cars’ article in April 2003, when it had done 70000 miles. They described it as being in great condition, and in my opinion it remains so over 20 years later.

It then had one further owner for a full 20 years up to 2024.

Between 2006 and 2013 it seems to have had quite a lot of restoration work carried out both to the structural base unit and external panels, and was probably repainted thereafter.

Recent history highlights rebuilding of the gear linkage with polybushes, exhaust replacement with stainless steel, carburettor rebuild, new water pump, drive belt, battery, fuel pump, new fuel lines, distributor rebuilt, and a full service inc engine and gearbox oil change, and new plugs in October 2024 at 75420m

It goes down the road very well indeed, belying it’s age with strong performance.

A decent P6b 3500S is one of my all-time favourites – before this one, I hadn’t had the pleasure of driving one for at least 15 years. And it didn’t disappoint!
