The Bentley Continental SC
When Bentley and Rolls-Royce went their separate ways in 1998 - Rolls-Royce to BMW, Bentley to the Volkswagen Group - an era of British luxury motoring was about to come to an end. While Rolls-Royce in Goodwood was preparing for the future with the Phantom, Volkswagen was modernising the Bentley plant in Crewe. But before this new era began, a short transitional period saw the production of vehicles that are now considered particularly collectible due to their low production numbers. One of the rarest and most sought-after representatives of this era is the Bentley Continental SC, where ‘SC’ stands for ‘Sedanca Coupé’. The Continental SC is based on the sportier Continental T, which is characterised by a ten centimetre shorter wheelbase and wider wheel arches. Bentley combined this basis with an unusual body concept: a two-part, removable glass roof over the driver and front passenger, supplemented by a fixed glass roof over the rear passengers. This was a modern homage to the classic Sedanca coupé of the 1930s. This Targa-like design makes the SC a mixture of coupé and convertible and gives it a character all of its own.
The SC is powered by Bentley's powerful 6.75-litre V8 turbo engine, which delivers up to 420 hp and an impressive torque of 825 Nm in the more powerful version - coupled to a smooth-shifting automatic transmission. The power, coupled with luxurious driving comfort, embodied the brand's philosophy in an ideal way: Power in abundance, wrapped in the finest craftsmanship. The price for this exclusivity was high: a Continental SC cost around 320,000 US dollars at market launch at the end of the 1990s. Only 73 examples were built in 1999 and 2000, of which only 48 were left-hand drive. Most of the vehicles were from the 1999 model year, only four units were built in 2000. One of these, the second by chassis number, is believed to be the first SC actually assembled at the Crewe plant. The remaining vehicles marked the end of an era at the old Bentley plant. Today, the Bentley Continental SC symbolises the last phase of British automotive tradition before the industrial reorientation. With its rare construction, its classic and striking design - often in elegant metallic colours with lavish chrome details - and its handcrafted quality, it represents the best of the last century. It is not only a luxurious Gran Turismo, but also a collector's item of historical significance - elegant, strong and unrepeatable.
With a mileage of just 25,000 kilometres since first delivery, the vehicle on offer here is in very good condition. Since the last service, the vehicle has only been driven 50 kilometres, which ensures that it is in perfect mechanical condition. In its stylish colour combination of metallic grey and grey/beige leather in the interior, the 5.25 metre long coupé glides elegantly along the roads.
