EXTERIOR

Distinguished in its classic combination of Green Black Metallic and Mushroom Beige Leather, it’s easy to see why the sweeping form of the R129 SL is fast becoming a modern classic. Solid squared headlights punctate the period styling of the front end, whilst the modestly sized AMG wheels alloys offset the lustrous finish to create a pure and simple aesthetic.

Benefitting from a colour coded hard top this SL can comfortably be considered for use all year round.

INTERIOR

High quality craftsmanship was synonymous with Mercedes throughout the 80s/90s, and this SL 500 is no exception. Mushroom leather upholstery and glossy walnut trim create a plush finish that offsets the exterior, lifting the whole look of the SL to create a perfect summer sports car.

Deeply contoured front seats are equipped with electric memory adjustment and heating for maximum comfort, matched perfectly by the smooth automatic gearbox to create a refined, capable cruising environment. Further luxuries come in the form of a premium Blaupunkt FM radio and CD changer, electric climate control and an optional wind deflector which keeps cabin noise to a minimum once the automatic soft-top is down.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Fitted with Mercedes M119 5L V8 the SL 500 is certainly a capable long distance tourer, using its low down torque and 5-speed automatic gearbox for an effortlessly smooth drive. Top speed is limited to 155mph whilst 0-60mph takes just 6.3 seconds thanks to the V8’s 322bhp output.

Mechanically this example presents in top order, with regular servicing shown by the stamped service book and a file of invoices outlining significant expenditure from the current owner to ensuring the car was maintained to an excellent standard.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The 2 piece AMG Alloys complete the classic style of the SL and show in excellent condition, free from any signs of curbing.

Premium rubber sits on each corner and shows excellent depth all around.

HISTORY FILE

Supplied new by Mercedes Benz Walton in May of 1998, this beautiful R129 has been extremely well looked after by only 3 owners from new.

With a complete original book pack there are 10 stamps in the original service book up until 2017 with all services and maintenance after done by the German Motor Car Company of Wandsworth. With the current owner acquiring the car in 2004 it has been maintained meticulously and the love for this example is quite clear with a folder dedicated to simply every requirement the car has needed during his ownership.

The folder from GMC is absolutely brimming with invoices and emails back and forth to ensure the car was prepared to it’s best possible condition – the provenance is unquestionable and exactly the kind of paperwork any prospect is looking for when purchasing a classic. Superb! With its last service being done by GMC in 2024, this SL is ready for its next trip down to the coast.
