1957 LAND ROVER

1957 88" Series One Land Rover. Originally CKD to Australia, was last on the road there in 1980 according to the South Australia windscreen sticker. Re-imported a few years ago as a barn find. I bought it from the importer and have done all that was needed to make it a usable and reliable vehicle again. As with most Australian vehicles there is no rot. Bulkhead is perfect and chassis has only surface rust. Every single nut and bolt I needed to undo came free without seizing, even the brake pipe clips! I have repaired / re-commissioned it to sound running order whilst leaving it cosmetically as it was, looking every one of its 67 years old. Work done includes: New fuel tank, new front springs, front axle rebuilt and converted to Railko bushes, rear axle converted to full floating using correct Series one half shafts, gearbox replaced with a good used item, new clutch, pedal and linkage. New brake shoes, cylinders, pipes. Master cylinder rebuilt. New carb, new wiring harness, radiator re-cored, new water pump. Replica D shape rear lamps incorporating indicators. Engine runs well, no smoke and good oil pressure. 750 G90s on military 5.5" rims. Serviceable canvas and frame. Good pair of door tops. Drive nicely (for a S1) and looks charming.
