Description

After nearly three years of ownership and much deliberation, I've made the tough decision to put this much cherished car on the market, primarily because it's not getting used. Unfortunately, whilst it was driven 3,000 miles last year, I've only used it two or three times to date this year.

The car has a detailed service history with supporting stamps. A new engine was fitted by Porsche Exeter in 2005 at 11,000 miles.
OPC serviced from new up until 2008. Then serviced by RSJ, OPC Byfleet, Cridfords, RSR and latterly by Parkes Performance.
The car was unmodified when I purchased it in October 2022.
The following items have been replaced since I purchased the car :
Engine Mounts (OE Porsche)
Ohlins Road and Track dampers with custom spring rates.
Eibach adjustable front coffin arms and Hardrace adjustable front caster arms.
New TRW rack ends (drumsticks) and track rod ends.
New rear caster arms.
New anti-roll bar droplinks front and rear (TRW)
New front and rear top mounts (front Lemforder, rear OE Porsche)
New front top mount bearing assemblies (OE Porsche)
New OE Porsche gearshift cables.
Gearbox drained and refilled with Motul semi-synthetic oil.
PCM unit removed and genuine Porsche GT3 Clubsport lower centre console delete fitted. All PCM parts available if required.
HVAC controls moved to upper dash location. Radio/CD player replaced with OE Porsche delete/dash cubby hole. Centre console ashtray replaced with OE Porsche delete.
Rear seat and seat belt delete carried out. Rear seats, fittings and seatbelts available if required (but access to the rear seats is limited with the Nogaro seats fitted)
Rear wiper deleted and a bolted in colour coded delete plug fitted (not just a push-in colour coded rubber/plastic grommet)
Porsche 996 Cup steering wheel and horn push fitted. This is the genuine article (not a generic Momo item) it was fitted using a used OE slip ring, so if required the car can be returned to standard without the need to purchase a new (and expensive) slip ring assembly.
Cobra Nogaro seats fitted, trimmed in "pleather" with contrast white stitching and the cushions custom trimmed in orange houndstooth material and specified without Cobra logos. Fitted using the latest Cobra ultra-low seat mount kits.
Porsche OE front Aerokit front bumper fitted August 2023
New Textar (OEM) front and rear brake pads and braided flexible lines.
Front brake discs 345mm x 30mm floating 2 piece discs.
Rear brake discs 325mm x 26mm floating 2 piece discs.
The above are the largest sized discs that can practically be accommodated in the standard calipers.
The disc bells were manufactured by BG Developments (suppliers of bespoke braking components to F1, Moto GP, WRC, WEC, McLaren road and competition cars etc).
The disc to bell fasteners were supplied by AP Racing.
Wheels recently refurbished.
Tyres : 235/295 Michelin Pilot Sport PS4 S Fronts currently 4 - 4.1mm Rears 2.8 - 2.9mm
New (OEM) windscreen fitted by Paul at Glasstec AKA "Glassman".
Two stage paint correction and graphene ceramic coated by Dave Bowerman at Sportscar Protection in August 2023.
Judging by the condition of the underside, it appears the car has been garaged all/the majority of it's life. Simply put, there's no corrosion in the places often found on the underside of a 996.
At some point in the car's past, the rear wiper arm (with the blade at 90 degrees to it) has been allowed to fall onto the rear quarter panel.
This was a regular occurrence in the 996 community until someone realised that a small cable tie placed around the wiper arm and through the blade itself, meant the blade could no longer "flip" 90 degrees and inflict damage to the paintwork on the rear quarter panel. Rather than do this, I deleted the wiper arm and motor assembly altogether.
Regrettably the paint was scratched when the wiper blade fell on it, and someone subsequently tried to polish the scratch out. In the process they polished through the lacquer into the base coat. If you know where to look, the patch where the lacquer has been polished through, can be seen, but the vast majority of people looking at the car won't notice it.
I've not had the rear quarter panel repainted for two reasons : Firstly it doesn't bother me (despite being "somewhat" OCD) and secondly I know it would most likely result in the side of the car having to be painted, and possibly the rear bumper, engine cover and the panel beneath the rear windscreen too. The cost doesn't worry me, the possible outcome (overspray, blend lines, colour mismatch) I know would.
The bottom seams on both silencers are "crusty", the silencers don't blow, and have passed all the MOT's in my ownership without comment/advisories.
The air conditioning compressor is noisy when engaged (the air-conditioning system still blows cold) The car is booked in with Ray at Northway Porsche, Ray said they'll remove the existing gas from the system, then recharge it with fresh gas and oil. This normally addresses the noise issue. If it doesn't, a new/recon compressor will be fitted.
The starter motor is lazy/slow (ish) to spin the engine over, moreso when hot. Again the car is booked in with Ray at Northway Porsche to address this. Prime suspect is the "Y" lead/earth lead. If a new/recon starter is required, it'll be fitted.
The car's clutch drags almost imperceptibly when hot. It doesn't slip and isn't heavy, but the car is booked in with Ray at Northway for a new clutch assembly to be fitted.
Whilst the above issues are being addressed at Northway, the car will receive an oil service too.
The phrase "Find another" is glibly used all too often in car adverts these days. However in this case it's justified, as to the best of my knowledge there isn't another 996.2 similarly specc'ed.
As I understand it, there are just three Zanzibar Orange 996.2 cars in the UK, one Turbo, one C4S, and this car. Zanzibar was available as a special order colour (not PTS) at extra cost.
To date I’ve only seen a 986 Boxster, a 987 Boxster, and a factory supplied, aerokitted 996.1 C2 in Zanzibar Orange. I’ve previously owned two 996.1 GT3s in the same hue (it was the launch colour) Thus, in the UK, I believe this to be a unique car.
This is a very clean, tidy and eye-catching example of a 996.2 in a rare colour. The fitment of the custom sprung Ohlins dampers have transformed the way it drives, likewise the upgraded brake discs. Inside, the seats and steering wheel, along with the de-cluttered centre console, have made for a more focused driving experience, but without going to the extremes of an early watercooled GT car.
It was to have been my "forever" car, but seeing it sitting in the garage not being used is making me feel increasingly guilty that I'm not using it as I'd intended.
£26,495.
Serious enquiries only please. Communications from tyre kickers/timewasters, traders, sales agencies, auction houses/auction sites will NOT be replied to. So please don't waste yours or my time contacting me.
No part exchanges.
For serious potential purchasers, there are numerous amputee donkeys in the surrounding fields around here ... proof that I'm more than happy to chat/discuss the car at length on the phone or in person.
Pre-purchase inspections will of course be welcome after genuine buyers have viewed the car. The car will need to be booked in at your specialist of choice and inspected on a ramp. Clowns masquerading as "expert inspectors" wanting to carry out inspections on the drive by poking cameras underneath won't be entertained.
