CSC present for sale this superb classic 996 Carrera 2 Aero-kit Coupe finished in stunning Schwarz Metallic. These early cable throttle 996 3.4 Carrera’s have become a highly praised favourite amongst enthusiasts as they offer a very analogue driver experience, something very much lost in the facelifted and later generation 911’s.

This example is a unique example of an early 996 and ticks many boxes for a Porsche or driving enthusiast. This car being a classic rear wheel drive, manual transmission 911 coupe is the perfect base car for any Porsche enthusiast. These early 996’s are praised for their purity and driving feel, with 1999 being the last year of 911 production with a physical cable operated throttle.

This 996 has a very interesting and driver focused list of factory options, the last option code being 09991 which shows this example was subject to Porsche’s ‘Exclusive Programme’. Porsche’s ‘Exclusive Programme’ allows buyers to order a car to a specific specification, generally not available via the standard selection of options. This could be non-standard colour’s, finishes or options not normally offered together, but for an increased cost (obviously), the factory would put the car through its ‘Exclusive’ programme to build a non-standard specification car to order.

The most obvious option on this 996 is option XXA, the factory Aero-Kit comprising the GT3 Style front bumper, side sills and engine lid with spoiler. Option XRL is the Sport Design GT3 style multi-piece alloy wheels and option 030 completes the GT3 look and feel by fitting the car with M030 Sports Suspension which sits the car 10mm lower whilst improving the cars handling.

Externally, the Stunning Schwarz Metallic paintwork presents very well with no major marks or damage, this rare colour has several metallic undertones which allow the colour to change from a metallic black to bronze, purple and green depending on different lighting. The colour coded Sport Design alloy wheels with polished outer rims set the car off perfectly and are in superb condition with no curbing damage. The wheels are shod with N rated Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with plenty of tread remaining.

Inside, this 996 features full Savannah Leather trim which is in simply stunning condition with no major marks or wear. Savannah does tent to be a ‘chalk and cheese’ colour however in this case, it really complements the bronze undertones in the Schwarz paintwork perfectly and gives a real sense of occasion each time you open the door. Even the roof lining is finished in Savannah Leather whilst the superb 2 way-electrically adjustable hard back Sports Seats look great and offer the perfect balance of comfort and support.

On the road, this 996 drives impeccably with classic 911 accuracy and precision. The steering is light but sharp whilst the brakes are firm and reassuring. The gear change is superb with this car being fitted with a short shift which offers a very precise and accurate gear change whilst clutch operation is light and smooth. The M030 suspension gives the perfect firm but comfortable ride whilst giving superb and compliant handling and feedback.

The 3.4 flat six engine starts on the button and is quiet and smooth at idle. On the move these 300bhp units rev freely and pulls strongly in each gear with plenty of low-down torque and strong acceleration higher in the rev range. This 996 is fitted with an aftermarket valved ‘switchable’ Sports Exhaust which gives the car a superb soundtrack as and when the mood takes and very much adds to the cars character.

This 996 offers an opportunity to own a true classic 911 with all the right options and investment potential. These early analogue cars are destined to be held in high esteem in the years to come in the same way the early air-cooled 911’s are viewed today.

HISTORY:

The car was first registered on the 09th July 1999 at JCT600 Porsche, Newcastle upon Tyne and returned to the same dealer for its first service in July 2020. The Service book shows 15 service stamps and an accompanying file includes many service and maintenance receipts, MOTs and general history paperwork over the cars life.

The file shows that once the 3 year manufactures warranty came to an end an extended Porsche Warranty plan was taken out and ran until September 2008. Any major repairs would have been carried out, likely by Porsche centre Cardiff during this period.

The 996 stayed largely within the OPC network for servicing and maintenance until 2010. The car has since been maintained through independent specialists, being sold to the last owner through Adrian Crawford Porsche in 2022. The clutch was recently replaced at 66,000 miles by Weissach Porsche in Middlewich during the last service around 1000 miles ago. The Service Book shows the following details:-
