PORSCHE BOXSTER
Background
Some would argue the original Boxster is one of Porsche’s best in recent times. The first Porsche to be designed solely as a roadster since the 914, the Boxster, released in 1996 and known internally as the 986 has been subject to increasing popularity recently. The original Boxster marked a turning point for Porsche who needed to have a commercial upswing if they were to stay in business and after consultation with Toyota in the early 1990’s, the decision was made to implement greater parts sharing across models. All of this meant a lot of Boxster components, namely the bonnet, front wings, headlights, interior and engine architecture was utilised in the 996 generation of the 911 introduced a year later in 1997. All of this meant buyers got a more grown up 'junior Porsche' with an engine positioned in the middle offering more neutral handling, what’s not to love?
Initially launched with the 2.5-litre variety of the M96 engine, the first water-cooled non front-engined Porsche powerplant. Boxster S models were treated to a larger 3.2-litre derivative of this engine offering significant power increases to 254bhp and 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds.
The Car
The example on offer here is a fine one and ready to be enjoyed throughout the summer months, in a smart specification of Silver paint, Turbo-esque wheels with blue soft top and black leather inside. Displaying a reasonable 83,891 miles, the exterior presents well with no curbing evident on the wheels and the paintwork presents as you would expect with the mileage. The black leather interior still holds up with door cards still looking fresh and the expected wear with high frequency contact areas like the driver's seat, steering wheel and gear knob. The drivers bolster thankfully shows no rips or tears.
Mechanically this 2000 Boxster S has been refreshed by new shocks and springs in recent years, this example also has a MOT expiring in April next year, passing with 'no advisories'. Our seller notes both the sun visor flap and door pocket on the drivers side may require attention and very occasional smoke on start-up which has been put down to the Boxster’s lack of use in recent months. The service book shows a comprehensive history with a mixture of Porsche main dealer, Porsche specialist and independent workshops with it’s last service taking place on the 22nd September 2024 at c.78,000 miles
We believe this is a great usable example of a model that is forever increasing in popularity among Porsche enthusiasts and is now being appreciated for its driving prowess. We welcome all enquiries on this soft top Porsche.
