This Clio Trophy is one that the current owner took ownership of in November 2013 around 51,000 miles as a standard car (other than a Pro Speed exhaust at the time) which he initially used as a standard car for the odd track day. Gradually over the years a few aftermarket items were added, initially smaller items such as an air filter and upgraded Brembo brakes, followed by engine/gearbox/topmount bushes, oil cooler, half roll cage, air con delete kit, bucket seats and harnesses (amongst other bits). Around 2018 the car was getting less and less use so it was set aside in the owners garage whilst other cars got used instead. Fast forward to May 2021 (circa 70,000 miles) it was decided that the car could do with a few additional items and get it back into use.
This started with ‘just’ AST 5100 suspension and the Speedline 2118 wheels (£2,602), as well as Pure Motorsport competition engine mount, Cat Cams, Forge Hose kit, smaller brackets for the Brembo brakes (to fit under the new wheels), engine breather plate, Pure MotorSport racing manifold and exhaust (£2,836.44) as well as the RS2 carbon inlet manifold (£1,260). The previously fitted Sparco bucket seats were also removed in favour of far superior Recaro SPG seats (£1,819) along with Scroth harnesses (£504). Lastly, consumables such as a new clutch, timing belt service, water pump, brake discs & pads, engine gasket set, cylinder head skim and pressure test, injectors, coil packs, magnacor plug leads, battery relocation, Murray hose clips and various other items bring the build to an end (£2,333.38). At the same time the gearbox was removed and sent to K-Tec for a rebuild (£1,190) using OEM parts. Finally the car was taken to EFI tuning (£349) to custom remap the car with all the new parts, achieving a very safe and conservative 196.1bhp.
The total cost for all of the above work carried out comes to £12,893.38 and that actually excludes any labour charges.
As you can see from the above information, this Trophy really has had the full catalogue thrown at it to turn it into what you see today. This genuinely has been a no expense spared build with the intention of it remaining in the collection for years to come (already over 10 years now) but with other more exotic vehicles in the fleet the Trophy won’t be getting the use it deserves.
Considering the age and mileage of the car it presents very very well, with essentially nothing more than age related ‘patina’. The paintwork is seemingly all original and does show a fair level of stone rash to the front end but nothing drastic. There is a tiny spot of rust on the drivers rear quarter panel from a stone being trapped between it and the rear bumper, this has been like this for at least 5 years and has not got dramatically worse. Overall it does look absolutely fantastic for its age and miles which I hope comes across in the photos. The wheels are basically brand new and wrapped in Dunlop Direzza tyres with ample tread all round. Virtually all consumable parts were replaced during the build and it has done 1 track day since. The interior is in great form, no major wear to any areas and nothing has been damaged or chopped.
The car comes with a huge history file pretty much from day 1, the original handbooks, original Trophy CD, original tyre foam kit, both keys, and of course a huge list of invoices for the work carried out to the car over the years. Also in the paperwork file are all tax discs from new until 2014 when they were abolished.
In addition, the car comes with 99% of all the original parts including the all important Sachs dampers (rebuilt 24/06/2016 at Cornering Force, circa 62k miles, but cannot guarantee current performance of these now) the original speedline wheels and a whole host of parts, everything that has been removed is present and included. Please note, the original seats are NOT present (sold years ago) and therefore not included although the original seat base plaque IS retained.
