Considered by many to be the ultimate driver’s car and a high point in Ferrari’s history, the 458 Speciale is a limited production series car and the last naturally aspirated V8 powered Ferrari and a Pininfarina designed masterpiece.

Ferrari’s lineage of special-series mid-engined V8s began in the early 1990s. Starting in 1992, Ferrari made just over 100 examples of the 348 Speciale followed in 1999 by limited-run F355 Fiorano, in 2003 came the 360 Challenge Stradale and in 2007 the Speciale’s immediate forebear the 430 Scuderia.

In simplistic terms, the road to the Speciale can be summed up in four words: more power, less weight.

It is a 458 Italia with 90kg slashed away via stripping the interior, lighter glass and a Lexan engine cover; a 458 fitted with a tweaked 4.5-litre V8 producing an astonishing 597bhp at 9000rpm and with gearshift times cut by 44 per cent; the Ferrari that introduced Side Slip Control; the only car ever to win EVO magazine’s Car of the year unanimously. Ever.
