The Ferrari 275 GTB/4
a name that excites car enthusiasts worldwide, embodies the essence of Italian engineering and the unparalleled Ferrari flair. As the successor to the already legendary 275 GTB, which was launched in 1966, this sports car set new standards in design, performance, and technology that continue to impress today. The design of the 275 GTB/4, a joint creation of the renowned design houses Pininfarina and Scaglietti, is a masterpiece of form. Its long, flowing lines, elegant silhouette, and perfect balance of proportions make it a timeless classic that still turns heads decades after its production. The body, mostly made of steel, features aluminum elements such as doors and the hood, contributing to weight reduction and better weight distribution. A distinctive feature is the hood, which has a narrow, flat bulge running along it, giving the car a unique expression. The heart of the 275 GTB/4 is a high-revving 3.3-liter V12 engine with four overhead camshafts. This engine, directly derived from the successful P2 prototype, is a masterpiece of engineering. With an output of 300 hp and torque that is impressive even at low speeds, the engine delivers exceptional performance. Power is transmitted via a precise five-speed manual transmission that efficiently transfers the engine's power to the rear wheels. The dry sump lubrication system and the six Weber dual carburetors contribute to the performance and create the unmistakable sound that makes the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 an acoustic experience. The chassis of the 275 GTB/4 is a masterpiece of engineering. The independent suspension on both the front and rear axles, combined with precise steering, ensures agile and precise handling that excites even the most demanding drivers. The disc brakes on all four wheels guarantee excellent braking performance and offer the highest level of safety. The interior of the 275 GTB/4 is a blend of sportiness and luxury. High-quality materials such as leather and wood are crafted with precision to create an exclusive atmosphere. The sporty bucket seats provide optimal lateral support and guarantee a secure hold even during dynamic driving. The clear instrumentation keeps the driver informed about all important vehicle functions and contributes to intuitive operation. Although the 275 GTB/4 was primarily designed as a road car, it also proved its capabilities in racing. Numerous private drivers used the car in various events, achieving remarkable success. Today, the 275 GTB/4 is a highly sought-after collector's item and is one of the most valuable Ferrari models. Its timeless design, impressive performance, and historical significance make it an attractive investment for collectors and enthusiasts. The Ferrari 275 GTB/4 is more than just a car. It is a symbol of an era when automobiles embodied craftsmanship and passion. It is a witness to a time when driving was still an experience and not just a means of transport. And it is proof that beauty and performance can be perfectly combined. The 275 GTB/4 is a piece of automotive history that continues to fascinate and excite to this day.
About the car offered here:
Marque historian Marcel Massini indicates this 275 GTB/4 was completed in fall 1967. Carozzeria Scaglietti finished the coachwork in brilliant and distinctive colors; Verde Pino (Pine Green) with an Arancia (Orange) leather interior. Though it was originally destined for sale in Italy, with delivery slated for Crepaldi’s dealership in Milan, the new Ferrari was grouped in a package of cars and delivered to official US distributor Luigi Chinetti Motors. In November 1967, Chinetti sold 10563 to west coast Ferrari distributor, Modern Classic Motors, Bill Harrah’s dealership in Reno, Nevada. In January 1968, 10563 was sold to its first private owner, the Hodges Chemical Company of Burlingame, California. A series of photographs taken in 1969 show the Ferrari as a virtually new car, wearing black-and-yellow California license plates, numbered “VYA 674.” In July 1971, the second owner, Roger Selby of Redwood City, California purchased the car. Mr. Selby, an avid enthusiast and successful motorcycle dealer, kept the four-cam for over five years before selling it to Harley Cluxton’s Grand Touring Cars, Inc. in Phoenix. After having its engine and transaxle rebuilt, the Ferrari was sold to Mark Magruder, a resident of Grand Junction, Colorado. Magruder owned the car for a brief period, selling it back to Mr. Cluxton in October 1977. In April 1978, Mr. Cluxton sold the four-cam to well-known collector Dr. Ronald Finger of Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Finger owned many important Ferraris during this period, including an aluminum-bodied 275 GTB/4 and a 250 GTO, both raced by Chinetti’s North American Racing Team. He retained 10563 until 1981, subsequently selling it to James “Kirk” Kircher of Ludington, Michigan. Mr. Kircher was the first owner to display 10563 as a show car, entering it in the Ferrari Club of America National Meeting held in Asheville, North Carolina, in June 1981 and at the next two FCA National Meetings, in 1982 and 1983, earning back-to-back Best in Class awards. In late 1983, the prize-winning 275 GTB/4 was sold, via The Stables Ltd., to respected collector Sherman M. Wolf of Amherst, New Hampshire. Well-known in Ferrari circles, Mr. Wolf was a passionate enthusiast who lovingly maintained and regularly enjoyed campaigning cars in events such as the Colorado Grand. Mr. Wolf kept 10563 until 1998, when it was sold to Mel Weiss of Kinnelon, New Jersey. The car remained in his possession until 2009, when the Ferrari changed hands again. The new owner was Orin Smith, from Vero Beach, FL, USA. Via the dealer Peter Kumar, Gullwing Motor Cars, based in New York, USA, the 275 GTB/4 arrived in Japan in May 2017, where it was registered for the first time in the same month. The car spent the following 4 years in the collection of its Japanese owner. In July 2021, the Ferrari was sold and exported to its current owner in Europe.
Today, this 275 is a fantastically original, well-maintained Ferrari and exceptional provenance that has been kept in the hands of knowledgeable collectors for decades and is in remarkably original condition, having never undergone a full restoration. This Ferrari GTB/4 retains its original matching numbers engine, data plates and delightful features such as genuine Marchal headlights and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. Today, the odometer reads 42,650 miles, which is believed to be original based on previous records of 31,000 miles in 1976 and 40,000 miles in 1983. The car is offered with an original tool roll with jack in excellent condition and the leather handbook folio containing the spare parts catalogue, original owner's manual in mint condition, dealer directory and sales brochure. This exceptional vehicle also comes with a detailed report by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini as well as copies of period photographs, correspondence and owner documents. This spectacular and largely original, matching numbers 275 GTB/4 has all the qualities one looks for in a sought-after collector's Ferrari. The exceptionally rare colour and stunning interior underline the special nature of this coveted four-cam performance icon. This GTB/4 is an outstanding example of Ferrari's finest front-engined twelve-cylinder masterpiece - a unique and enduring tribute to the glory days of sports car manufacturing.
