1973 CITROEN DS 23 PALLAS 5-SPEED MANUAL SUPERB RESTORED EXAMPLE

Sometimes, after a lifetime in the motor trade, certain cars come into stock that you just fall in love with.

For us at Motodrome, that’s invariably the Citroen DS, and this original UK RHD 1973 DS 23 Pallas 5-speed manual definitely gets our vote.

It represents one of the ‘sweet spots’ in the Citroen DS model lineup, as a) it’s a late car fitted with carburettor rather than fuel injection, b) it has the 5-speed manual gearbox.

This one is the ‘Pallas’ model, giving a higher trim level, and has a very plush, fully retrimmed 2-tone leather interior along with all it’s Pallas body and interior fittings

As ever, the Hydropneumatic suspension provides an amazing ride and, with power steering and brakes. It’s really light and easy to drive. And I can confirm it really turns heads.

KKM was acquired by a DS enthusiast in 2021 as a scruffy car needing significant structural work, and 3 years later it emerged as the superb example you see here. The comprehensive restoration included, but wasn’t limited to, new lower door skins, repairs to the sills, floors and cant rail (with the roof removed), topped off with a full respray in Citroen Red

The hydraulic system was overhauled and most hydraulic pipes were replaced, a new fuel tank and fuel lines were installed, while a 123 electronic ignition system was added along with new seals around the windscreen, windows and doors , which are vital for DS longevity.

It runs and drives beautifully, and gets admiring glances wherever I park it. Not for nothing were these voted ‘the most beautiful car of all time’ by eminent car designers in 2009, and they remain one of the coolest classics you can own.
