Selling my beloved GTi-6. It's a fabulous thing to drive and one the great experiences. It's my first 'weekend' car, and I bought it in December 2020 at 142k miles. In early 2021 it underwent a mechanical refresh and repair at a Peugeot specialist local to me. This involved:
- All welding on the underside and resealed.
- Replaced all dampers with Bilstein B4 OE replacements
- Braided brake lines
- Pug1Off Short Shift gear linkage
- Rear Beam rebuild
- Headlamp bulb upgrade
- Re-install fog lights (car came with the Rallye fog delete, and these will be supplied with the car)
The car came to me with a Jetex aftermarket exhaust fitted, which is probably the quietest aftermarket exhaust you can get for the car. Not boomy or annoying, but makes a very nice noise when revved. Just what you want really. That and the stainless steel tip.
Between April 2021 and December 2023 it was my 'other' car, and I did 6k miles in that time. It has been serviced annually with oil changes every time and other replacement parts and upgrades were made, including:
- New battery January 2023
- New OE replacement front springs April 2023
- Full suspension rubbers, bushings and front lower arms replaced August 2023
- Timing belt and water pump replaced (despite what the painted cover says) at 148k miles November 2023
Since December 2023 I've put using it as my daily driver. I've done another 10k miles in that year, and it's been a joy to drive a special car most days. During the last year a few more bits got done:
- New idle control valve August 2024
- Front wheel bearings Jan 2025
- New Spark Plugs Jan 2025
- Front brake disc and pads April 2025
- New Pipercross air filter (in OE casing) April 2025
During it's time as a daily driver I have washed it weekly and hosed the underside religiously to keep the salt off it.
I had a tow bar fitted in early 2024 so my bike rack could be fitted so I wouldn't mess up the interior. No visible cuts were required to fit it, so if you take it off the rear bumper looks as it should.
The interior is in great condition. The only exception being the hole in the drivers outside seat bolster. It hasn't got worse during my ownership, and doesn't cause any discomfort. Despite it being a bit busy on the revs (70mph is a little over 3000rpm) and no cruise control, it's actually a really comfortable car to do long distances in. Does around 34mpg on a big trip. 28-30mpg daily driving. I did a road trip to the Scottish Borders to ride my bike, and driving the car was almost as spectacular as the mountain biking.
Steering wheels is a genuine OMP with a 70mm extending boss, and a little custom 3D printed Peugeot badge in the centre. It's the only way I could get comfortable being 6ft 2in. The stock wheel and airbag is included in the sale, so it can be reverted to stock. It's had the proper electrical work done so the airbag light stays off, so it won't fail it's MOT on that.
It's had the Rallye Aircon delete at some point, but most of these 306s at this age it doesn't work anyway. Cooling air is pretty strong, and with the sunroof tilted it's easy to stay cool in warmer weather. The heater in winter is spectacularly good.
OE Clarion stereo with retro 6CD autochanger in the boot. I have replaced the front door speakers with some modern Alpine units so you can actually hear them!
Bodywork is 7/10. It came to me with quite a lot of blown lacquer and I had the roof, bonnet and both rear 3/4 panels repainted in March 2021. Unfortunately the paint on these panels is already lifting a little in the odd place, and there are scuffs on the corners of the rear bumper and around the tailgate, all of which were on the car when I got it. It looks great from 5 feet away, but it's mechanically very honest. Photos show the chips and scratches.
Wheels are the original Cyclones in 15" size, and they have Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 rear tyres with good life left and brand new Micheline Primacy 4 on the front. All in the proper 195/55 R15 size.
There is one electrical issue with the car and that is that the electric front windows don't currently work. At some point the in the past someone has done quite a janky wire repair in the drivers door-to-body wiring and that failed. I have tried to fix it, but without success. According to friends in the local owners club, a rewire of that door wiring with some unbroken wires from a scrapped car is the way to go, but I haven't sorted it as it's only happened a couple of months ago. With the sunroof working and the fans on, I haven't really missed them.
What more can I say? It's wonderful to drive, mechanically fresh, I have done all the big ticket items, engine still revs hard, and it always starts (famous last words, eh?). It's been mega. They really don't make them like this anymore.
Was my dream car when I was in my 20s, but I need something more practical as a daily now, and more insurable to teach my kids to drive.
