For Sale: 1st 500 Porsche 2.7 RS Touring M472 – Extraordinary Provenance
JZM are proud to present an extraordinary piece of Porsche history—this 1973 911 2.7 RS Touring, an early and highly significant example from the first 500 homologation cars built. Chassis 0283 is an incredibly rare find, being one of only three known examples finished in striking Dalmatian Blue, making it a true collector’s piece.
Regarded as one of the most important 911s ever produced, the 2.7 RS set the benchmark for lightweight performance, combining the iconic ducktail spoiler, wide rear arches, and the legendary mechanical fuel-injected flat-six. Built with the perfect balance of road and track capability, the RS Touring specification ensured this 2.7 RS retained everyday usability while delivering the thrilling performance and razor-sharp handling that defined Porsche’s motorsport DNA.
Adding to its provenance, this, RS has currently been owned for over 20 years by legendary musician and avid car enthusiast Jay Kay of Jamiroquai. More than just a cherished collector’s item, this car also gained a moment in the spotlight, starring in the “White Knuckle Ride” music video, making it not only a piece of Porsche history but a cultural icon in its own right.
In May 1993, the 2.7 RS underwent a full restoration, which included a respray back to its original Dalmatian Blue, returning it to its factory-spec finish. At the same time, the engine was stripped and overhauled by Prestige Porsche specialists in Dartford, Kent, addressing oil leaks and ensuring optimal performance.
This example is supplied with a complete service history, including invoices from the early years of its life, documenting its careful upkeep and thorough maintenance.
Presented in superb condition, this 2.7 RS remains a standout among its peers, offering a rare opportunity to acquire a well-documented, highly significant Porsche with an incredible provenance. A must-have for any serious collector or Porsche enthusiast.
