This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Timed Online Auction - 10th April on Thursday the 10th of April.

Background

It wasn't until the launch of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI that the Japanese firm truly entered the consciousness of a wider spectrum of rally enthusiasts. The first Evo to be officially available in the UK, the Mitsubishi Evo VI, was introduced in January 1999 and the 'standard' Evo VI GSR stole enthusiasts' hearts from the start with its 2-litre turbocharged engine producing the 'Gentlemen's Agreement' 276bhp (although it’s accepted that it was closer to 300bhp) and 275lb/ft of torque.

It featured a complex and hugely capable four-wheel drive system, mated to a 5-speed gearbox, ensuring this lightweight 1,360kg saloon was fast and exciting, with 0-60mph dispatched in 4.4 seconds and topping out at 150mph, immediately giving Subaru’s Impreza a bloody nose.

The Evolution VI received new bodywork yet again, with the most easily noticeable change being within the front bumper, where the huge fog lights were reduced in size and moved to the corners for better airflow.

The Car

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR came with a number of standard features over the lower RS and ‘standard’ Evo. These included Active Yaw Control for enhanced handling, Brembo brakes for superior stopping power, anti-lock brakes as standard, Recaro seats, auto air conditioning, a double-DIN audio system and power windows, making it a well-rounded blend of performance, comfort, and convenience.

This low-mileage version of the ever-popular Evo VI has only covered 82,000 miles in its 26 year lifetime, averaging just over 3,000 miles per year. With that kind of mileage, this is a rare car, especially in GSR spec.

The Evo came with roughly 276bhp, but many accepted it was more. This car has had a few upgrades to make it a few more horses. It has recently had a custom-made exhaust manifold, Mongoose catalytic pipe, a 5" exhaust tip and other uprated parts, including injectors, roll bars and discs and pads to name just a few. In 2020, it was fitted with an uprated twin-plate clutch to withstand the extra power going through the car, with the car believed to be making around 360bhp, which is all taken in its stride by the bulletproof AG63 engine.

The car also has an MOT until 12th November 2025, with a recorded mileage of 85,050 and invoices backing up all the work the vendor has carried out on the car.

Overall, this sensibly guided Evo VI is perfect for someone seeking to add to their car collection or a daily driver from one of the biggest names in rallying.
