MORGAN PLUS 4
Background:
All eyes are on Morgan right now, with the launch of an all-new model, the 'Supersport'. And it's hardly surprising that people are so excited about it, as when Morgan releases a new car, it's generally here to stay. Take the Plus Four, for example. Launched in 1950 and still going strong today, it's one of the most sought-after cars the Malvern firm has ever produced.
The Morgan Plus 4 was a fixture for the Morgan Motor Company for decades, running in parallel with the ready availability of the Standard Triumph four-cylinder engine. With three body styles available – the standard two-seat roadster, the lovely drophead coupé (with a three-position top and roll-up windows) and as here, the four-seat roadster. Constants included the ash-framed body, sliding-pillar front suspension, cut-down doors, rudimentary weather protection, the springy Bluemels Brooklands steering wheel and the 'unique to Morgan' cream-coloured Smiths gauges.
The Car:
First registered in 1958, this example spent some time in a Swiss Collection before moving to Spain, where it was purchased by our vendor. It returned to the UK in 2022 and has remained in his Collection since, with minimal use.
Powered naturally by the Vanguard 2-litre straight-four engine coupled to a 4-speed manual gearbox, the paintwork presents well in gleaming red, with very smart tan leather upholstery, still retaining its original steering wheel, sitting on 15" steel wheels wrapped in Vredestein tyres.
Accompanying the vehicle is full weather gear, which includes a tonneau cover and side screens. Paperwork also includes invoices and documentation from its time in Spain, as well as the Morgan Motors Parts Manual.
This bright little 1950s Moggie seems to have spent much of its time in various collections and would probably appreciate some time on the open road, ideal for those longer Continental road trips, or for those who want to share the unique Morgan driving experience with the whole family.
