Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato Continuation
The DBZ Centenary Collection
In the early 1960s, the British manufacturer Aston Martin and the design house Zagato, founded in Italy in 1919, collaborated to challenge the Ferrari 250 GTO on the racetracks of Europe. For this ambitious goal, they built a lighter and more aerodynamic version of the DB4 GT, the DB4 GT Zagato, which raced at Le Mans in 1961 and 1962. The 19 examples built at the time went down in history as some of the most beautifully designed cars of all time. Many decades later, the two icons celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Italian design house in 2019 with a mixture of legendary history and its modern interpretation. As the DBZ Centenary Collection, the British manufacturer presented two very special models that were only available together. Each of the 19 pairs, which consisted of the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation and DBS GT Zagato, cost 8,000,000 euros gross at the time. We are offering one of these exclusive pairs for sale together or individually at first hand.
The Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato Continuation
The DB4 GT Zagato Continuation combines classic art with modern construction possibilities. Each of the 19 examples was painstakingly handcrafted by Aston Martin Heritage in Buckinghamshire over the course of 4,500 hours, mostly according to the original plans and even in collaboration with some of the suppliers of the time. Due to modern emissions standards, each Continuation was delivered without road approval, in keeping with the spirit of the original racing car. The advantage of this was that Aston Martin had more freedom for the driving experience, which meant, among other things, that the displacement of the six-cylinder in-line engine could be increased from the original 3.7 liters to 4.7 liters, which is why the output is 375 hp. New telescopic dampers on the rear axle, bucket seats and a full roll cage ensure a more precise driving experience. Despite the additional components, the Continuation variant retains the weight of the original Zagato of just under 1,230 kg. This is partly thanks to the aluminum body, which is just 1.2 mm thick and sits on a lightweight tubular frame. Thanks to the unfiltered characteristics of the vehicle coupled with modern safety features, the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation offers a unique driving experience like no other.
The Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato
On the other hand, there is the DBS GT Zagato, which represents the new interpretation of the legendary classic. The masterpiece, redesigned by Zagato, is based on Aston Martin's powerful DBS Superleggera and delivers an incredible 770 hp. A 5.2-liter V12 with bi-turbo charging is responsible for this. Its optimum cooling is ensured by 108 diamond-shaped carbon sections in the radiator grille, which open and close automatically as required. New light-alloy wheels with central locking ensure a powerful appearance. This is underlined by the typical Zagato double-bubble roof, which consists of a single piece of carbon and extends down to the boot lid. At the rear, a wide carbon strip unites the round rear lights, which are fitted with protruding spikes. In the interior, Aston Martin relies on a mixture of classic craftsmanship and modern production techniques. Parts of the dashboard are 3D-printed, while the high-quality leather is applied by hand. In place of a typical interior mirror hangs a screen that provides an ideal view thanks to a camera mounted at the rear. Two specially designed leather bags, which can be attached behind the seats, together with the voluminous trunk, offer the option of stowing luggage for longer journeys. The stylish combination of elegance, exclusivity, comfort and limitless performance make the Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato the ultimate GT vehicle of modern times.
About the vehicle offered here:
This DB4 GT Zagato Continuation was ordered from Aston Martin in 2019 by its first and so far only owner as part of the DBZ Centenary Collection pair. He finalised the unique configuration on 1 July 2019. After completion on 30 October 2019, the final configuration of the corresponding DBS GT Zagato was approved on 10 March 2020, which was completed just under a year after the DB4. After the first delivery in Switzerland, Aston Martin Vice President Peter Freedman confirmed the authenticity of the pair in a personal letter on 10 May 2021. A matching appraisal was carried out by an expert a month later, with the vehicle receiving the grade A with a mileage of just 112 km. Since then, the collector's item has been safely stored and was only moved by an expert for a photo shoot.
