AUSTIN MINI COOPER S 1275 MK1 1966 FULLY RESTORED
Trophy winning beautifully restored Austin Mini Cooper S Mk1 1275 LTG222D Restored for a good friend who unfortunately has to part with it.
Island blue with white roof, built 15th of august 1966 and despatched on the 23 rd of august 66 to Ernest Garland and Son Ltd Warrington and subsequently registered new on the 15/09/1966 in the UK. The v5 states 2 former keepers and we have the original cardboard registration book also. The heritage certificate mentions the fresh air heater,4.5 inch wheels along with the oil cooler and rare reclining seats as added extras ,the secondary fuel tank was standard fit by 1966 in the S type mini.
This has been a no expense spared restoration using only the best suppliers and specialists in their individual fields, new fixings throughout and anything that could be re used has been fully refurbished ,the car needs to be seen and driven as its truly like new .
The car was first unveiled ,literally, following its restoration ,by the British Mini Club on the 29th of January 2023 at their Bingley Hall show as one of the major attractions of the show and filmed on red carpet ,the video is available online.
The next show the car attended was the Mini Cooper Register "Cooperday "show at Beaulieu in summer 24 where we entered it in the Concours de Elegance and it was driven there and literally parked and left for judging ,no polishing or titivation and she came 2nd in Class 1 ,missing first by half a point apparently !! .
LTG222D has been subject to a full nut and bolt bare shell rotisserie restoration with perfect panel gaps and unbelievably deep shiny paintwork inside ,underneath and out.
Mechanically the engine has had a full rebuild by Southam mini metro centre ,recognised as the best in the business for cooper s engines ,with its original super rare AEG 163 cylinder head rebuilt by Vmax scart who did a video of the cylinder head as they had not seen a better one in over 30 years as most are cracked or repaired ,not this one ! the video is still available online ! Southam also rebuilt a 4 syncro 1128 gearbox for the car as the original 3 syncro 1288 box was jumping out of first on occasion ,this original gearbox will be included with the car .Even the exhaust is the correct and expensive type with the dimpled rear box replica from maniflow.
The subframes have both been blasted and powder coated and the fuel tanks blasted and painted also. The original hydrolastic suspension was already gone when we purchased it and we have kept it on dry suspension although the brackets and rear piping are still present.
We have photos before restoration and even some before purchase taken at goodwood, and full restoration pictures from beginning to end of work done and panels changed.
The car will be appearing on the front cover of "classic and sportscar" magazine in may this year with a few other cars along with a 2 page editorial on the car.
Having only covered 300 miles since restoration it needs further running in for anther 200 miles.
On the inside the interior has been retrimmed in the correct power blue and gold brocade with new moulded carpets and headlining .
The spend on this car has been truly immense and no expense spared !! it was obviously not done with a view to ever selling it especially in todays depressed market . Grab a bargain and use it or put it away as an investment ,i know which i'd chose ,but driving it is believing !!
any q's dont hesitate to ask, loads of pictures available ,most are on my facebook page beatspeed classic mini rejuvenation by searching the reg or just scrolling through.
total original mileage unknown ,300 since restoration
