FORD CAPRI 2.8i X Pack Special - 5.7l Mustang V8 + NOS. £80K plus professional build.

Its back! Our fabulous Capri has just come back to us in part exchange from a valued and fellow petrol head customer. At Quick and Big Ltd we are therefore absolutely delighted to offer for sale for the 2nd time, our unique Ford Capri 2.8i Special X Pack, or should that be Ford Capri 5.7l Special.
I know the purists will pillory me for saying, but given the Capri was alleged to have been conceived as the European Mustang, our unique example really does blend the two. With its 350bhp, 5.7l Ford Windsor V8 (plus up to 150bhp Nitrous Injection), perhaps it’s the “end of an era” Capri, Ford should have built!
Its been professionally photographed by Jason Dodd Photography, at Southend’s Adventure Island (many thanks to both), for Fast Ford Magazine. The ones in the ad are our amateur photographs. A data stick of the professional shots accompany the car. It was then the subject of a 5 page feature in Fast Ford Magazine in Oct 2023 (a copy accompanies the car).
Our unique Capri has also been picked up by Piston Heads, for an editorial feature, its a good read a quick web search will find it.
It was built from the ground up, between 2010 and 2015, by respected Capri specialists Tickover Ltd, it has had at least £80,000 poured into it and has completed only 5,000 miles since it was built. In 2023 we had the Capri re painted by award winning Classic Car Restorers, Bushell’s Restoration, in its original Rosso Red, its finish is absolutely stunning.
All Fast Fords are appreciating rapidly in value, Capri’s are no exception. Our example is unique, beautifully presented, is ready to show and enjoy, it also sounds absolutely awesome! It is a very cool road car that can be enjoyed on the track / strip, although it would be a bit of a hand full in the wet.
Those of us of a certain age, idolised the 2.8i Special back in the day (in 1987 I was 16), here’s your chance to own one, that will draw a crowd where ever it goes. People will certainly hear it coming, and when it arrives it won’t disappoint. We have worked hard to make it look as original as possible, of course a few things give its power away, wheels, brakes, exhaust etc. and of course it definitely doesn’t sound original. Its a real British / American muscle car!
Our Rosso Red 5.7l comes with a huge history file recording many, many tens of thousands of pounds worth of invoices spent on its build, many more thousands have been spent by us in addition. It also contains fascinating work shop manuals for many of its upgrades, period and rare Ford Brochures / Price Lists / Colour Chart’s etc. it even has a original and unused, genuine Ford Service Plan book, ready for its new owner to record it future maintenance. The file is a Petrol Heads idea of bed time reading.
D279 ROD was registered in April 1987 (production of the Capri at the Ford Colonge factory finishing in 1986), as such is a very late 2.8i Special. Our unique Capri was professionally re built from the ground up, over a five year period. It’s showing an indicated mileage of 59,652.
Our unique Capri was the vision of a wealthy enthusiast, who commissioned its build in 2010 from renowned Capri experts “Tickover Ltd”. Over the following five years, a small fortune was invested in creating this unique muscle car.
We have put a dyno pull video on You Tube, again a quick search will find it, the Capri sounds awesome.
The spend and spec are documented in detail in the comprehensive folder that accompanies the car. Some of the spec is summarised below:
X Pack 2.8i Special 1987 shell supplied by Capri Club International.

Freshly re built 1983, 350bhp / 490Nm 5.0 litre Ford Windsor V8, stroked to 5.7 litre’s. Supplied by British American Engines.
We have just had the engine loom replaced, new Link ECU, sensors, coils, ignition amplifier, etc, etc.
Wizards of NOS, 150bhp Pro Stud kit, with NOS / Fuel Pulsoid and passenger footwell mounted 10ld NOS bottle (currently disconnected).
Comp Cams XE268H camshafts.
Edelbrock cylinder heads, Edelbrock 4 barrel carb.
Large bore “Hooker” block hugger headers, big bore exhaust.
5 Speed Tremec TKO 600 gearbox, custom prop shaft and Quaife LSD.
Hi Spec 300mm, 4 Pot front brakes, Capri Club International rear disc conversion.
Alimunium radiator with high output Kenlowe fans, long range (130l) custom fuel tank.
Gaz adjustable coil overs all round.
2.8i Special interior with half leather Recaro’s, with 2 adjustable wing mirrors and period Pioneer stereo.
Revolution alloy wheels shod with Toyo 888 street / track tyres.
It’s enthusiast owner, who commissioned the conversion wanted it to look like a Mk2 with chrome bumpers, and even wanted it supercharging, over time lost interest in the project, despite poring well over £60k in to the build, he never saw it or drove it! As such it was stored inside until 2017, when it was sold by Tickover Ltd on his behalf. Its only done 6,000 miles of smiles since.
Our vision for the Capri was to put it back to as close as its original look as possible, after all Rosso Red, X Pack, 2.8i Specials, were really rare and a poster car of mine back in the mid 80’s, as such it’s became a “heart ruling head” project for me.
We spent a further considerable sum (too much) returning it to its original Mark 3, X Pack, 2.8i Special looks. Prize Winning classic car restorers, Bushell’s Restorations have completed the work for us to an amazing standard. The work was exhaustive but including: full glass out / trim off etc professional respray in its original Rosso Red, addition of genuine and very cool, Ford RS “Turbo” boot spoiler (not cheap), replacement Mark 3 bumpers, locks, window surrounds, front valance, lights, wing mirrors, custom decal set etc.
All of the above work is documented in its fascinating history file.
To summarise our unique X Pack V8 Capri is an opportunity to acquire a stunning, and very fast old school Ford. Its period looks are bang on. You would never know what lurks under the bonnet unless you heard it, or it comes thundering past so you catch a glimpse of its, exhausts, wide rear stance and the bespoke boot decal.
All its MOT certificates since its build accompany the Capri, its most recent MOT was passed with no advisories and does not expire until 12/4/2025. We will of course put a fresh MOT on it for the new lucky owner. Our stunning Capri is 38 years young, and in 2 years time, can be registered as a “Historic Vehicle” with the associated road tax, MOT and ULEZ benefits.
It is of course HPI clear and a full HPI report will be available to potential purchasers.
Many thanks for wading through our lengthy description, we believe it’s better to describe our cars fully. It is not in our interest to waste your time or ours with inaccurate descriptions. It does of course have the odd age related imperfection, but that would be splitting hairs, it’s simply stunning!
Whilst not for the purists, our unique X Pack Capri 5.7i Injection Special, really does tick all the Quick and Big Ltd boxes being: quick, perfect for the road / track / show’s, re built from the ground up, unique, sounds glorious and is very, very cool (you can probably tell, but I absolutely love it).
Please visit the photographs (there are many more online at "Quick and Big") and our terms and conditions (also online at "Quick and Big") as they form part of the description, and contact us via Pistonheads or by calling Peter on 07860691960, to arrange a viewing / test drive by appointment. Any inspection is of course welcome. Part exchange particularly if its quick, big or unusual is a pleasure.
