EXTERIOR

The P1 was the first official UK Impreza with a two-door body, and its exclusivity is obvious in every detail. Its distinctive front and rear spoilers were designed by Peter Stevens of McLaren F1 fame, and every car was finished in eye-catching Sonic Blue. This one is number 444 of only 1,000 produced, and we’re delighted to report that it remains in stunning, unmodified condition. Even on close inspection it really is hard to find fault. The quality of the paintwork is excellent throughout with deep and even shine, no off-colour panels, and only a few carefully touched-in chips low down on the front bumper to report. The original headlamps are clear and bright with protective covers, and the badges all round are perfect. The car has obviously been kept inside and away from the elements because there is no wear or perishing to any of the rubber seals and, most importantly, the body is entirely rust-free. The finest we’ve seen, a collector-quality example looking every bit the low mileage of just 26k.

INTERIOR

The Prodrive sports seats locate the driver an inch or two lower than in the Impreza Turbo and, trimmed in a special grey/blue cloth combo, they look fantastic. The bolsters are unworn and of course there are no rips or stains anywhere, just the usual light patination to the suede-effect base sections. The seats are finished with Prodrive embroidery and a contrasting red stitch that extends to the original Momo steering wheel, gear knob, and hand brake lever – all in first-rate condition with a perfect finish to the leather. Other commonly worn areas such as the dash plastics and switchgear are in equally fine order, and everything works as it should. The headlining is spotless, and the carpets are still protected by original Prodrive floor mats, including in the boot.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The engine bay is very clean, honest and original, so not overly dressed or restored. Having just been fully inspected there are no signs of accident damage or previous poor repair, and mechanically she’s spot on. A fresh oil service has just been completed, and for additional peace of mind the cambelt was replaced less than 2 years ago. Reading through the accompanying History File it’s clear the car always been well maintained at close mileage intervals with 15 entries in the original service book.

HISTORY FILE

In the hands of 5 owners this immaculately presented P1 has driven only 26,572 miles from new. When the current registered keeper purchased the car back in 2018, he set out to secure the best and most original example available at the time, and after viewing numerous other P1s he finally found this one. The car has been pampered in his garage ever since and, at least during his ownership, it has never seen a wet road.

The History File is complete with the original Subaru leather document pouch, all owners manuals, the service booklet with 15 stamps, a raft of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates, an original P1 sales brochure, spare key, two spare remote fobs, and the current V5C showing only 4 former keepers. Services have been carried out at the following mileages: 1,035 – 4,408 – 6,217 – 7,771 – 8,681 – 10,417 – 11,295 – 19,388 – 22,696 – 22,991 – 23,164 – 24,925 – 25,536 – 25,462 – and most recently at 26,572 miles in March 2025. The first 8 services were completed by Subaru main dealers and thereafter the history is a mixture of independents and marque specialists.
