Historic Vehicle, 1980 Taimar, nut and bolt restoration,

TVR Taimar, 1979 Full nut and bolt restoration and engine rebuild
Road TAX and MOT Exempt
This is my Taimar, I’ve owned it for more than 10 years now.
The car has undergone a full and extensive mechanical restoration as outlined below and is better than new from a mechanical point of view.
The car is now on the polished diamond cut 'T' slots as per the fourth photo
The Taimar has had a full mechanical restoration, from full engine rebuild to stage 2 spec, polished and ported with big valves on the exhaust, lightened fly wheel and GT cam, new rings and bores honed, crank ground with new bottom end bearings and cam bearings, core plugs renewed, 38 DGAS carb rebuilt with original parts and tuned, rocker covers, and filter housing powder coated along with all pulleys.
The car has had a complete chassis refurb with all of the usual rust areas above the diff and outriggers jigged and replaced by AEON sportscars.
Everything was stripped from the car and powder coated, everything.
The chassis and all other metal parts have been zinc sprayed and powder coated in black with a subtle gold fleck, 4 speed gearbox and diff rebuilt by Medway transmissions, front brakes rebuilt by Bigg Red, and gold anodised, rear brakes replaced, all brake lines replaced with braided hoses used. fuel tank opened up, cleaned out and re sealed/ tinned. new fuel hoses and cunifer pipes, wheels refurbed with new tyres.
suspension rebuilt at Koni, and now the rears have been changed to adjustable GAZ units to give a better and adjustable ride height.
The door frame retaining brackets inside the door have been replaced with new cut and bent stainless plates so that the door tops no longer flop around.
sunroof has been re-covered in the correct coloured webasto roofing material.
Basically, if it could be removed and refurbed/ replaced/ powder coated, it was.
New bolts and bushes EVERYWHERE, and that means every mounting bolt, every suspension bolt and every suspension bush has been changed.
I have uprated the ignition system to coil packs and Megajolt system with the EDIS module and electronic pick up on the crank, which has made the car even better to drive and easy to tune, but I have left the original dizzy, coil and wires in just in case a 'purist' wishes to use them!
I have also refurbed the alloys T slot wheels to the original factory finish with black slot inserts, new centre cap decals and a fifth spare wheel.
The Engine has been tuned at BD Engineering in Sittingbourne and produced a nice 178 bhp with 185+ Torque, but the only reason for the RR session was to set up the carb following its rebuild as I wasn’t really chasing BHP
The interior is in good ORIGINAL condition with no rips or tears anywhere, leather oatmeal dash door cards and console and material seats with brown contrasting carpets, the seats are oatmeal cloth, and the foams are a bit tired, all original switches and gauges.
The exterior of the car GRP is in very good age-related condition, there are a few micro bubbles on the roof area and since having it detailed a couple of years ago the paintwork has dulled a bit, I didn’t want to paint it as it shows great patina as she sits now! and polishes up very nicely.
To list some more of the work :-
Radiator re-cored with an extra row added making it a 3-core rad for better cooling.
New water pump,
New uprated oil pump.
New clutch,
Full stainless exhaust.
Steering rack refurbed,
New brake master cylinder.
New brake servo.
New brakes all round with redstuff pads at the front
New flexible brake pipes
New hoses
New wheel bearings all round
All fluids and oils changed, running on VR1.
New gearbox and differential fluids following them being rebuilt
Heater box matrix renewed, and inline fan installed for cabin heater.
Lucas coil and electronic dizzy pick up (now superseded by the megajolt system)
New leads.
There will be plenty more information I can give you over the phone so please call for a chat.
The car drives like a new vehicle, corners well, and happily sits with the rest of the club when out for a hoon.
The front shocks and springs, despite being refurbed by Koni, are showing surface rust.
There is a very slight oil weep from the rocker covers, to be expected with the Essex V6.
There is an exhaust blow from the passenger manifold that will require a new gasket at some point
I have addressed some of the Poor wiring connections at the body/ bonnet transition point
The rear shocks and springs have been changed for adjustable GAZ units for ride height adjustment
The GRP body is all original paint with a great patina that I really don’t want to lose by painting it, the number plates are still the original plates from the supplying dealers “Tim and Zoe Randall”
there is also an extensive file of photos of the 14 month rebuild process, showing everything from removal to replacement of everything mechanical.
If you really wanted to, a paint job and tidying up the wiring would really make this car a 25k
Make me a sensible offer for a great little running car!
I will consider part exchange for another TVR requiring restoration
make me an offer.
