The BMW M4 CSL

A New edition of a legend: To mark its 50th anniversary, BMW M presented a unique special model. The M4 CSL combines traditional racing passion with innovative technology. A consistent lightweight construction concept and increased performance of the in-line 6-cylinder engine with M TwinPower technology make the BMW M4 CSL the most powerful and fastest model of the series ever approved for road use. The unique design and purist characteristics geared towards racetrack use ensure an inimitable experience. The 3.0 litre 6-cylinder is characterised by superior power development and the distinctive M-typical sound. The further developed power unit delivers an outstanding 550 hp. The lightweight M precision struts in silver grey used exclusively in the BMW M4 CSL serve to stiffen the vehicle and impressively improve the driving dynamics.

The exhaust system ensures reduced back pressure thanks to an optimised pipe layout and large cross-sections. With two electrically controlled flaps and the specific titanium rear silencer, it also ensures a customised drive sound specially designed for the M4 CSL. The standard adaptive M suspension makes it possible to adapt the damper characteristics to the respective driving situation and thus increase driving dynamics and ride comfort. In addition to the standard COMFORT setting for high ride comfort, there is also the SPORT programme for a firmer damper configuration and SPORT+ for use on the racetrack, for example. With the carbon-ceramic brakes, the braking force is applied even more directly. The brake is corrosion-free and even more heat-resistant. It is characterised by very low wear and contributes to weight savings, which has a positive effect on agility, dynamics and acceleration. The special technical features are visible to the outside world thanks to brake callipers in high-gloss red with the M logo.

In addition to weight savings of around 2 kg, the braking system offers very high braking dynamics. For maximum individualisation, the driver can choose between the ‘Comfort’ and ‘Sport’ brake pedal characteristics depending on the situation via the M setup. The response behaviour varies depending on the characteristic. In ‘Sport’ mode, there is greater deceleration with the same pedal travel, particularly at low speeds, while the response behaviour of the two characteristics is very similar at high speeds. The 8-speed M Steptronic Sport transmission with Drivelogic offers a wide range of shift options: extremely sporty and dynamic, very comfortable and barely noticeable through to particularly fuel-efficient. The gears can be selected using the gear lever, the shift paddles on the steering wheel or one of the three automatic modes. The drive torque in the BMW M4 CSL is transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels. M Drive Professional is specially designed for racetracks. The ten-stage M Traction Control and M Mode TRACK are on board for a customised driving experience. It switches off assistance systems, reduces displays and puts iDrive into sleep mode.
