Jaguar XK Fixed-Head Coupe
An Exceptional Jaguar XK120
This stunning Jaguar XK120 has undergone a comprehensive body-off restoration, documented with over 200 photographs. It retains its original matching engine and chassis numbers, and features significant upgrades, including uprated camshafts, rack and pinion steering, a 5-speed manual gearbox, improved disc brakes, a Le Mans-style fuel filler, and a custom sports exhaust.
The car is finished in Jaguar Opalescent Golden Sand with a luxurious St. James Red leather interior, matched with leather-bound carpets. The interior showcases meticulous craftsmanship, from perfectly aligned screw heads to a West of England Wool headlining and gleaming Burr Walnut woodwork. The custom 15-inch sports steering wheel and matching St. James Red seatbelts further enhance the cabins elegance.
Provenance and Restoration
Built in September 1952, this XK120 was shipped to Hoffmans of New York and owned by Mr. Grosskopf of Ohio for over 45 years. After his passing, it was passed to his son, Jim, and later made its way to the UK in 2005, where it underwent a full nut-and-bolt restoration. The restoration process, which includes a complete photographic record, focused on both visible and hidden details, ensuring the cars integrity and longevity.
Restoration Highlights
Every element of this restoration is a work of art. Custom chrome headlamp rings with integrated mesh, polished rocker covers, and a custom aluminum steering column cover showcase the craftsmanship involved. The car also features modern upgrades like a 12-volt alternator, hidden radiator fan, and a stainless-steel exhaust that delivers a distinctive sound. The XK140 steering rack and XK150 calipers and discs provide superior handling and braking performance. The chrome wire wheels are mounted with Vredestein tyres, completing the look.
A Timeless Classic
First road-tested by Autocar in 1952, the XK120 Special Equipment Coup quickly became a favorite among those who loved speed and style. Seventy-two years later, it still holds its place as one of the most revered models in Jaguar history.
