Sharing the same basic (R107) platform architecture as its convertible sibling, the Mercedes-Benz 450SLC Fixed Head coupe was introduced in 1972 and remains the third rarest Mercedes built having just 62888 worldwide. A full four-seater, the model's stretched wheelbase was disguised by various ingenious styling cues such as the louvered sail panels that adorned its rear three-quarter windows. Equipped with all-round coil-sprung independent suspension, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes, it proved a comfortable and refined grand tourer. Predominantly allied to automatic transmission, its 4520cc SOHC V8 engine developed a quoted 217bhp and 265lbft of torque. Reputedly capable of over 130mph in standard tune, Mercedes' flagship coupe enjoyed a highly successful second career as a rally car including two Bandama wins and a second place on the East African Safari. This lovely 450 SLC is presented in the appealing shade of Thistle Green with beautifully contrasting brown velour interior. A German manufactured, UK-Supplied right-hand drive car, featured an Impressive factory specification including electric sliding roof, 14" Bundt Alloy wheels, rear lap belt, central locking, electric windows, heat-insulating glass with heated rear window and band-filter, headlamp wiper/washers and. The last owner was a friend and customer to Aidan Piers and we have had a number of vehicles from him over the years such as a Triumph Stag and his daily-user E class Mercedes however, he recently passed and is very much missed. I spoke about the 450 SLC with him many times as it was his pride and joy and stored between regular visits to shows. It has only done 83700 miles and has a decent level of service history backing this up along with all the MOT's in their original form. Such a low mileage example with this history surely presents a fantastic opportunity.
