This 1998 Chimaera 5Ltr came into Str8Six in March 2024 for a routine service, inspection and report. It was found that although it was a lovely example of the marque the mechanical condition was sub optimal, with heavy corrosion to the chassis outriggers, tired suspension, old tyres, perished rubber components and generally in need of an overhaul. We decided to purchase the car and carried out the work listed below:

Carry out body off chassis refurbishment. Remove body from chassis and strip chassis of all components.

Prepare chassis for outrigger replacement, investigate chassis and replace any perforated areas, fabricate and fit new outriggers inc seatbelt and body mounts. Remove/radius all sharp edges on suspension mounts etc.

Replace front upper and lower wishbones, radius edges to prepare for powder coat. Prepare all suspension wishbones, uprights, mounts etc. Shotblast, zinc prime and powder coat chassis, suspension and bracketry.

Rebuild chassis using new components where required. Carry out any relevant modifications as recommended. Clean and paint underbody, refit body onto chassis.

Strip engine of sump, exhaust manifolds, rocker covers, inlet manifold and timing cover. Check condition of camshaft and lifters found to be excellent. Clean all components, powder coat sump and rocker covers, refit using new gaskets. Supply and fit new inner wing heatsheilds. Re-install engine into vehicle..

Refurbish all 4 original Estoril wheels into TVR silver. Carry out Optiline 4 wheel alignment and road test to de-snag.

Strip dash assembly and replace upper and lower veneer sections. Remove rear roof section and send for new rear window.

Strip all bodywork and respray entire car in original Sapphire Blue. Refit using new rear light lenses and both badges refurbished.

The car is finished in the tasteful colour scheme of Sapphire Blue with the original TVR Estoril wheels in silver. The interior is in contrasting Magnolia with dark blue carpets bound in Magnolia. It has the later leather covered door cards rather than the carpet usually fitted to this model. The dash panels are veneered in walnut with contrasting cream gauges. The stereo is the original Pioneer tape unit with uprated JBL door speakers. Outside the soundtrack has been improved with an ACT sports exhaust system with the original catalysts still in place.

The car has a very good service history folder and the original owners manual is present.
