Austin Mini COOPER 2-Door

Built on the 3rd of July 1968 originally as a standard 998cc Austin Cooper MK II finished in white with a black roof. At some point in its early life, one of its owners had decided that the call of motorsport could not be ignored and JDR was prepared for its next role as a rally car. Over a period of time it know pays homage to the mid 60's 'Works' cars. It looks the part in traditional Tartan Red with Old English White roof sitting on 10'' Minilites popping out from the black extended arches. Heavy duty sump-guard, Cooper S twin tanks with quick fillers, a quartet of Lucas spot/fog lights. A roof mounted hand -operated spotlight, bonnet and boot straps plus much more. The interior benefits form a full roll cage, a new dashboard panel and a hand held extinguisher. The interior is basically standard and equipped with the normal working tools of a navigator. Internal fuses, map reading light, multiple stop watches and a Halda Twinmaster. It was rallied by navigator owner in the late 80's and early 90's and driven by his friend with much success. This included an outright win in the Cumbria Classic in 1990 and second in class on the Solway Rally. There are some press cuttings from that period. In 2005 up to 2023 JDR was part of a father and daughter Mini Collection. During that period rear lights and a rear screen from a MK 1 Cooper were added to enhance its factory look. The current owner purchased JDR in 2023 and commissioned Somerford Mini to carry out £4k of work to prepare for some Classic Events. We have entered back for sale at a reduced price due to the engine starting to show signs of smoking which could be worn Piston rings but would need further investigation.
