Volkswagen GOLF (MK7) GTI CLUBSPORT S ***** NOW SOLD ***** 2016

We are delighted to offer for sale this truly outstanding VW Golf GTI Clubsport S.

It’s not often we have the pleasure of encountering what we would describe as a reference example of the Clubsport S, but this November 2016 registered car is just that. A virtually as new Clubsport S with just 380 miles of dry road use and with only two owners in total.

We have now handled the sale of over 25 Clubsport S and look after several at our specialist workshop facility, APS Brackley, and this example is certainly the lowest mileage and consequently as close to new as we have seen including with regards to its underside, an often overlooked area but crucial to a car being able to be described as ‘as new’ in our opinion.

Finished in Pure White, this Clubsport S has spent virtually its whole life in dry and heated storage as part of a collection. With such low mileage and dry use only, the car presents for sale in totally perfect order both inside and out. Since we purchased the car it has had a comprehensive service at our workshop facilities where we specialise in VW Audi Group servicing and as previously mentioned the Clubsport S is a model we are very familiar with. Our pre-sale preparation works are carried out using only original Volkswagen parts and have included a major service consisting of engine oil and filter replacement, new air filter, pollen filter and spark plugs, replacement of the front diff oil, brake fluid and coolant. The car’s digital based VW service history has also been updated by our workshop and finally a fresh MOT performed, thus insuring it is absolutely ready for its next owner. This Clubsport S also wears its original and correct Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slick tyres.

Examples like this are very hard indeed to find and with prices steadily appreciating, for correct original and unmodified cars, they are now very collectable and rightfully so – not least because the Clubsport S is a truly limited production run and numbered special edition. Of 400 cars built worldwide, just 150 were allocated to the UK market and some of these have since been exported and therefore it’s easy to begin to understand why the Clubsport S has rightfully found its place with collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The only option at the time of order was to spec with or without air conditioning and our example is fitted with air conditioning. In our view Pure White sets this car off beautifully and you notice and appreciate the subtle cosmetic changes far more, such as the gloss black front bumper air intakes, larger tailgate spoiler and lower rear diffuser. Beyond its driver focused intent, the Clubsport S is business as usual for anyone familiar with Volkswagens high level of build quality. It’s interior presents beautifully with honeycomb pattern cloth Recaro sports bucket seats and alcantara-trimmed sport steering wheel with red stitching and 12-o'clock mark.

The Clubsport S benefits from input from ex-Porsche engineer Karsten Schebsdat and the results are sensational – testament to this is it’s runner up position behind the Porsche 911 R in Evo magazine’s 2016 Car of The Year test. Those familiar with the MK7 Golf R will notice the cars lightweight forged 19” Pretoria alloy wheels but look more closely and you will notice lots of differences. Significant chassis changes, an aerodynamic package designed to reduce lift, weight reduction, two piece brakes, extra power and a manual gearbox with a special locking differential were just some of the changes that gives the Clubsport S such outstanding performance and indeed for a time it held the Nürburgring lap time record for a production car with front-wheel drive. The combination of DCC adaptive dampers, its trick differential and unique hub design to give more negative camber combined with stiffer and lighter aluminium subframe translates to huge amounts of traction and cornering ability well beyond the regular Performance Pack GTI or even Clubsport Edition 40 variants.
