1979 308 GTB Sprint Pack

Foskers are delighted to offer for sale a very special Ferrari 308 GTB Sprint Pack. This example was manufactured by Ferrari SpA Maranello, Italy in 1979 with a Nero 20.B.619 and Crema VM3997 interior.

A 'carburettor car' with the desirable dry-sump engine, 79 was the last year Ferrari would offer carburetted cars with their distinctive burbling sound and higher horsepower than fuel injection cars that followed in 1980. Production continued only through 1979 during which time there is rumored to be just circa 211 RHD steel bodied, dry sump carburetted 308 GTB's that were produced for the UK market.

Bodies were initially constructed in fibreglass but the switch was made to steel bodywork because the weight saving was minimal and build standards improved. Regarded today as an iconic design with coachwork by Pininfarina the model is now recognised as a future classic.

The example offered here is an extraordinary survivor, a factory right hand drive car, optioned with Aircon, wide wheels and front spoiler as verified by Maranello Concessionaires Archive from Tony Willis which is on file.

In 1990 this example visited Nigel Mansell for fitment of Sprint Pack engine, and remains one of only a handful of cars that was converted to a Sprint Pack. The cost amounted to £11,700 back in 1990. The Sprint Pack was a dealer fitted option only available to the European market and increased power just shy of 300hp, 290bhp at flywheel confirmed via test report on this example. Due to the fact that the Sprint Pack was such a rare option, information on it is limited but included: Daytona LM (Borgo) HC pistons, four high lift camshafts, new valves, springs and guides, rejetted carbs, gas flowed heads, overhauled distributor. Quad Ansa stainless steel exhaust also fitted.

The car today remains complete with an A4 file with invoices and MOT’s, leather pouch, books, tools and an excellent service history carried out by reputable specialists over the years.

Its now presents beautifully, benefitting from a recent retrim of seats and door cards, new carpet and fresh respray in original colour.
