Overview

It's safe to say the Mazda MX-5 is a well-loved two-seater sports car. The model has been with us since 1989, with each generation getting better and better, and its renowned lightweight sports-car character, high level of equipment as standard, and enhanced comfort and technology all add up to a car that still retains the engaging driving dynamics we have come to love from the iconic MX-5, helping make it so popular with a whole range of individuals.

The third generation is no different; introduced in 2005, the model features an electric, removable hardtop, ideal for all weathers, and along with it came some desirable low-number editions, one of which was this particular model we have here, the Venture Edition.

The Venture Edition Roadster Coupe was produced in just 550 units for the UK market and featured some nice little touches that made it stand out from the rest. Available in just one of three colours, the Venture Edition also came with 17-inch wheels, a chrome grille surround, front fog lights, and twin-exit exhausts. Inside, you gained a touchscreen head unit, cruise control, piano-black dashboard accents, alloy pedals, and plush Havana Brown heated seats with matching panels on the door cards.

With a choice of either a 1.8 or 2.0-litre engine, this one has the 2.0-litre, but wait… in February 2021, the MX-5 had a BBR GTi Stage 2 turbo conversion fitted, pushing the performance to just over 300hp and bringing a whole new driving experience to the much-loved MX-5.

Summary

MX-5s are readily available, as you've probably seen, but if you are looking for something more special than your average MX-5, then you start looking at limited edition models such as the Venture Edition, and if that’s not enough to convince you, then one with a fully tuned BBR GTi Stage 2 conversion is the absolute icing on the cake.

With an excellent service history, new suspension parts fitted earlier this year, and a new centre-section and sports cat exhaust at the beginning of March, the MX-5 is just waiting to be enjoyed. Rain or shine, you’ll have the best of both worlds with the electric hardtop and enough performance to keep you grinning for miles and miles.
