Overview

The first thing that strikes you when out on the road in a Porsche Panamera is just how nimble it feels and performance from both the six and eight-cylinder engines really does belie its considerable bulk. Debuting in 2009 and weighing at around two tonnes Porsche's full-size, four-door luxury hatchback is astonishingly agile.

Marketed as a bona fide GT car, Porsche aimed the Panamera at the discerning motorist who needed a spacious cabin with room for four but wrapped it in a sleek, Gran Turismo package with effortless performance to eat up the miles with ease. Well, they certainly delivered. Make no mistake, the Panamera wasn't simply a lower, sportier Cayenne but a major player in the GT sector with a lot to offer.

Available with a host of V6 and V8 engines, either naturally aspirated or with forced induction, as well as later plug-in hybrid options, it's perhaps the twin-turbocharged V8 as found in the Panamera Turbo S that is arguably the most alluring.

Producing a whopping 550bhp and 553lb ft of torque the Panamera Turbo 4S feels like it has enough power to restart the earth should it ever stop spinning on its axis and can post a rather impressive 0-60mph time of 3.3 seconds before topping out at 190mph. Unsatisfied, however, Porsche made it even better in 2013.

Alongside a new E-Hybrid model, V6 S and a long wheel base version the Turbo 4S received some subtle design tweaks as well as a slight increase in power to 562bhp which still goes to all four wheels through the excellent seven-speed ZF PDK gearbox, and that's exactly what we have available here.

Summary
