Overview

The French are undeniably great at many things including food, style, wine, and perhaps most important for us here at PistonHeads - hot hatches. 

One of the greatest of all was the MK3 Renaultsport Megane - with a plethora of models available from full-fat R.S. to Trophy and Cup models, many state that this was the last ‘hot’ Megane that you could enjoy on UK roads without taking liberties. For those that don’t need the all-out bombast offered by the Trophy R, the limited-run Cup-S is surely the one to have. 

Designed as a run-out model for the MK3 and offered only to the UK market, just 130 were sold new here, making them a desirable commodity for those that enjoy their French hatchbacks on the rare side. Offering a Cup chassis and mechanical limited-slip differential as standard, journalists praised the Cup-S in-period, and it remains a firm favourite amongst driving enthusiasts to this day.

This example is finished in a stealthy shade of metallic Grey, and presents in good order throughout, having covered less than 30,000 miles from new.

Interior

• Cup-S interior with carbon trimmings in excellent condition

• Both front seats are in great shape, with no heavy bolster wear to note

• The rear seats are in a similar condition, showing virtually no signs of wear

• Being particular, we note some fraying on the steering wheel centreline, some typical wear to the Alcantara wheel covering, a few light scratches on the centre console and dashboard, and some marks on the lower door cards

• From what we can see, the high-traffic areas such as the switchgear and shifter remain in very good condition

• Up above, the headliner is taut throughout with no staining noted

• Original stereo remains in place

• No reported faults or issues

Exterior

• Metallic Grey paintwork

• Overall, this Cup-S presents in very good order, befitting of a vehicle with such mileage

• The front end and mirror caps show some typical stone chips

• We note some gravel rash around the rear wheel arches, corrosion to the front ‘RS’ badge and the wheel bolts,  a scratch aft of the nearside door, and some age-related patination to the exhaust surround trim

• Looking closely, we see some kerb damage to the front nearside and rear offside wheels

• The front wheels are wrapped in Davanti tyres, dated 2025

• The rear wheels are wearing Goodyear tyres, dated 2021

• A smart example of the French hot hatch, which shows a few small imperfections to attest to it being used and enjoyed as intended

• 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four ‘F4RT’ (yes, really) engine producing up to 271bhp in sport mode, and 247bhp in normal mode
