Overview
It would be wrong of us to try and hide our enthusiasm for Blackpool’s finest here at PistonHeads, after all, our forums were largely built upon an appetite for TVRs, ownership stories and enthusiastic discussions, and so we’re always pleased when one of these characterful British legends works its way across our auction block.
Here we have arguably one of the best of the lot - a Cerbera, finished in a classical colourway of Red Glow Pearl over a tan leather interior, with the TVR-developed ‘Speed Six’ slanted inline-six engine. With its McTaggart-penned design that is somehow simultaneously beautiful and brutish, it is the epitome of the TVR brand - analogue, more than a little outlandish, and stonkingly fast.
Registered in January 2000, this Cerbera has been looked after by marque specialist Mole Valley Specialist Cars - an officially appointed TVR heritage dealer - since 2011, and was subject to an extensive recommissioning in 2019. Having covered under 50,000 miles from new and with a reportedly clean bill of health from both a mechanical and chassis perspective, this Cerbera would make for a fine addition to any enthusiast’s stable.

Interior
-
Tan leather interior in good overall condition, with some signs of ageing commensurate with the car’s age
-
The steering wheel, door cards and seat edges show some typical signs of wear
-
We note some patination to the shifter, door pulls, buttons and switchgear
-
Modern Sony stereo with USB and Bluetooth/phone connectivity
-
The driver’s seat appears to be slightly stained at the rear, and there looks to be a large scuff/area of wear on the lower outer edge near the seatbelt base
-
The passenger seat looks to be in good shape, with only a small stain on the lower rear offside of the base
-
The rear seats exhibit some small stains and signs of wear
-
Looking closer, we note a small hole in the driver’s door card outer edge, some scuffs to the door sill trims,
-
The boot looks to be tidy, and comes complete with a Pioneer CD changer
-
Other than the aforementioned door issue, there are no reported faults, and the seller tells us the air-conditioning is working correctly
Exterior
-
Spectacular Red Glow Pearl paintwork which presents very well overall
-
The front end and exposed edges exhibit the usual stone chips and light usage marks
-
Elsewhere, we note a deep scratch on the lower half of the rear bumper rub strip, rub marks on both A-pillars, a larger stone chip on the rear of the front nearside wing, and some larger stone chips on the front end
-
Looking along the body, we can see no signs of any obvious impact damage or large indentations
- The passenger door decided not to play ball during our photo shoot but the owner advises that it's been operational since then
-
The wheels are wrapped in nearly-new Uniroyal tyres which have covered around 1,000 miles since fitting
-
Being particular, the wheels would benefit from a refurbishment and a polish as they show some signs of age, but are perfectly usable as they are
-
We’re told that the chassis has been inspected in the current ownership, with the outriggers showing no signs of any issues, and no causes for concern noted
Mechanical
-
3,996cc TVR-designed dry-sump ‘Speed Six’ inline-six engine producing 350bhp from factory and 330lb-ft of torque
-
Five-speed Borg-warner T5 manual transmission, sending power to the rear wheels
-
The engine bay itself shows some signs of heat wear to the cam cover, but nothing that would be outside of the expected signs of ageing
-
No reported modifications from factory specification
-
Specialist history since 2011
-
The seller tells us that this Cerbera is mechanically up-together with sharp steering, responsive brakes and no hint of any trouble brewing
-
Perhaps the seller themselves sum up the Cerbera best with the following quote: “It is simply a fantastic analogue toy in a digital world. It makes no excuses for being a noisy recalcitrant beauty that wants to be driven and put a smile on your face”
Summary
The right colour makes a huge difference to a car’s design, and this author reckons that Red Glow Pearl looks nothing less than spectacular on this Cerbera, and no doubt it will continue to draw plenty of attention and admiration in the hands of the next owner.
With fresh tyres, specialist history and the chassis reportedly in good order, this Cerbera looks to be a very attractive proposition.
