Overview
The 996 edition of Porsche's iconic 911 continues to be an excellent modern classic buy. While it’s often cheaper than many of the more “fashionable” Porsches that tend to steal the headlines (as well as people's hard earned), that doesn't make it any less impressive or engaging to drive.
The 996 is a brilliant car that is currently enjoying a bit of a renaissance as fans have finally come around to its water-cooled boxer engine and softer styling. Initially available with a 300bhp, 3.4-litre flat six upon its release in '97, performance and handling remained in sublime territory, but it was in 2000 that things got spicy with the addition of a twin-turbo setup.
Power was immediately boosted, quite literally, to 420bhp with the engine's displacement also growing to 3.6-litres. Add in a new trick four-wheel drive system and a six-speed manual gearbox and it's smiles all round.
Ever since the 930, forced induction 911s have always delivered and this particular 2002 996 Turbo is certainly no exception. Yes it has the manual gearbox and yes it has been meticulously maintained so those smiles will not wane should you manage to bag this beauty. With comprehensive service history, it's clear that the car has wanted for little during the course of its life and currently presents in fabulous condition throughout. As such it’s a great opportunity to enjoy the top of the 996 tree before prices get out of reach.

Summary
One of the more practical and easy to live with 911s, this 996 is not only a usable example of Porsche's perennially popular model but it remains an insanely fast machine, especially with those twin-turbos. Truly engaging, thanks in part to that six-speed manual and lack of any real modern driver aids, this car then presents a thrilling opportunity to scratch your 911 itch. Fully serviced and well-maintained there's a lot to like here.
