Overview

The Lotus Exige has to be in the running for the most special editions ever award, if there actually was such a thing. The legendary British sports car that took everything great about the Elise and went all Spinal Tap spawned an almost innumerable amount of variants across all three generations.

Produced for a whole 21 years between 2000 and 2021, the Exige was a more track-focussed weapon compared to its predecessor, delivering the goods at countless circuits all over the world. Revered for its incredible handling and seemingly endless amounts of grip the Exige has been a favourite among track day and racing enthusiasts for decades, and it continues to excite today.

Other sports cars have come and gone, many that are quicker and indeed more powerful than the Exige, but it's the little Lotus that petrolheads return to time and time again thanks to the incredibly engaging driving experience that it provides. Constantly tweaked over the course of production the Elise finally bowed out with the exceptional “Final Edition” cars. Cars that were launched to celebrate the Exige’s final year of production, and boy, what a last hurrah!

Unveiled in 2021 three Final Edition models were available, the Sport 390, Sport 420 and Cup 430, but it's the Sport 390, like the one we have available here, that is arguably the pick of the bunch. Still hugely capable on track the 390 is more road-biased than the other two, making it easier to live with day to day but that's not to say it doesn't pack a punch. Gone are the days of the early Elise's tiny four-cylinder K-Series engines with power in the Exige 390 being delivered by an almost 400bhp, 3.5-litre supercharged V6. That means 0-60mph in 3.7seconds and a top speed of just over 170mph. Oooof.

This particular incredibly low mileage Lotus Exige 390 Sport Final Edition comes to market in excellent condition throughout and with a fully documented past, including comprehensive Lotus service history care of Bell & Colvill.

With just 9,779 miles on the clock the car was last serviced by the Surrey based Lotus dealers at 8,665 miles, according to the vendor, and with an MOT until March 2026 it's ready to rock and roll, whether that be at the track, on the road or both.

Summary

The Lotus Exige 390 Sport Final Edition is a sublime, compact two-seater sports car that weighs about as much as a Tunnock's Tea Cake. Combine that with an impressively capable supercharged V6 and you have something really rather special on your hands without going full psychopath and committing to the 430 Cup edition. For enthusiasts clamouring for a car that needs, no, demands to be driven hard there are few others that gratify as much as this. A fitting send off and a truly worthy example to see out a legendary period of Lotus' eminently impressive history.
