Overview
One could argue that the 2015 BMW Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo isn’t just another performance car; it's a masterpiece of subtle engineering. While it's based on the F30-generation 3 Series, Alpina – the legendary German manufacturer – transforms it into something truly special. This isn’t a loud, aggressive machine, but a refined and highly competent grand tourer with the heart of a performance beast.
At its core is a heavily modified version of BMW's 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine. Alpina's engineers fitted it with twin turbochargers, boosting its output to a staggering 345bhp and a monumental 516lb-ft of torque. This stunning power allows the D3 to go from 0 to 62mph in just 4.8 seconds and hit a top speed of over 170mph, making it one of the fastest diesel cars of its time.
What truly sets the D3 apart is its balanced performance. Unlike many sports saloons that sacrifice comfort for agility, the D3 Bi-Turbo offers the best of both worlds. Alpina’s team worked meticulously on the chassis and suspension, adding stiffer springs, specially tuned dampers, and bespoke anti-roll bars. The result is a ride that's both engaging on twisty roads and exceptionally comfortable on rough surfaces.
As such, the D3 Bi-Turbo's design reflects Alpina’s philosophy of understated performance. It doesn't scream for attention. Instead, it features a modest front splitter, a subtle rear diffuser, and Alpina's signature multi-spoke wheels. You can even opt for the classic pinstriping to complete the look, which, as you can see, has been added to this particular example.
With just three former keepers, this 2015 Alpina D3 presents extremely well inside and out, as the images show. The car has been with the enthusiast vendor for a period approaching 12 months, during which time a BMW service has been carried out to continue the full BMW history, along with an air conditioning re-gas.
It’s a reluctant sale of what is a fastidiously well-maintained and cared-for Alpina and your chance to acquire a true great.
