Overview

STI, the three letters you definitely want to see on the back of a Subaru that you’re thinking of buying. Standing for Subaru Technica International - Subaru’s in-house motorsport team, STI-badged Imprezas and WRXs are the ones to have as an enthusiast, as they represent the pinnacle of the models’ development.

The 2011-2013 WRX STI is no exception (note the lack of the ‘Impreza’ name, which was officially dropped from 2011 onwards) and saw the return of the much-loved saloon bodyshell, though the hatchback was also offered during this generation. Featuring the classic boxer-four engine which was now more audible than the previous generation thanks to an exhaust system redesign, Subaru’s active all-wheel-drive system and revised suspension, the 2011-13 WRX STI was widely praised by the motoring press, and remains a firm favourite to this day.

This ‘Type UK’ example was first registered in March 2013, and has been in the care of the current owner for the last three years. Religiously serviced (if it was possible to over-service a car, this would be the prime example!) and with an outstanding history (comprised of a mixture of stamps and invoices) roughly 10,000 miles have been covered in the last three years, yet this WRX STI has more service stamps than most cars we’ve seen with double, if not triple the mileage!

Presented in outstanding condition throughout, if you’ve been on the hunt for a Subaru to fill the flat-four-shaped hole in your life, this is the one you’ve been waiting for.

Interior

  • Cabin in great condition throughout

  • Light wear to outer bolsters for both front seats, but otherwise all seats are in excellent shape

  • The drivers’ pedals are in great condition, as are the other high-traffic areas such as the steering wheel, shifter and HVAC controls

  • The seller notes that the fascia trim around the stereo is peeling slightly, and that the Alpine stereo will not be included in the sale of the vehicle

  • Genuine Subaru STI mats and boot mat

  • There is some light wear to the plastic trim surrounding the shifter

  • The centre console rear cup holder is currently missing, though a replacement part is included in the sale of the vehicle

  • No reported faults or issues

  • Overall, a very well-kept cabin that has benefitted from gentle ownership over the years

Exterior

  • Paint and bodywork in great shape throughout

  • The front end exhibits a few small stone chips and light gravel rash, as do the mirror caps and other exposed edges, in keeping with what we’d expect to see on a performance car of this age.

  • We note a small mark/blemish on the upper nearside front edge of the roof

  • The seller notes there are some small dents on the driver’s door

  • At the rear, the Pro-R exhaust has been polished and protected with Carbon Collective products

  • Being particular, we’d say the paintwork on the boot looks a little flat and ‘orange peel’ in its finish

  • The rear bumper also exhibits a few small chips, but nothing that we’d consider untoward

  • All four wheels are in excellent condition with no kerb rash or heavy damage, with all four wheels wearing Hankook tyres that have been regularly rotated front-to-rear

  • Underneath, the chassis was cleaned and protected with Lanoguard, with the seller telling us that there are no causes for concern when it comes to corrosion, and only some light surface patination on a few non-structural areas

Mechanical

  • 2,457cc flat-four turbocharged engine, with a dynamometer print out showing an output of 328.3bhp

  • Six-speed manual gearbox

  • All-wheel drive with Subaru’s intelligent AWD system

  • The DCCD centre differential is reported to be in full working order

  • The central exhaust resonator has been removed, replaced by a Hayward & Scott part to unlock more of the flat four burble

  • We’re told that this WRX STI has been serviced “religiously - every 3,000-6,000 miles” and that it has an HKS performance oil filter, Millers CFS 10W-50 oil, Millers oils in the gearbox and diffs, an HKS Roger Clark Motorsport timing belt kit, HKS auxiliary belts, Pipercross performance panel filter, Koyorad triple core radiator withf resh coolant from Subaru, Motul DOT 5.1 brake fluid, Good Ridge braided brake hose flexis

  • The brake discs and pads were replaced in July 2022

  • The standard exhaust has been replaced with an upgraded item, though we are not aware of any further modifications

  • The seller states that the car “drives brilliantly, especially on B-roads where it comes into its own … it’s never let me down!”

  • No reported mechanical faults, issues or foibles
