Overview
This is very much the James Bond of Mercedes-Benz models. It cuts a suave dash in its impeccably tailored suit, but there’s a barely contained streak of pure malevolence coursing through this four-door saloon. It’s positively straining at the leash to show more obvious sports cars a clean pair of heels, perhaps upsetting the odd card table or apple-cart along the way, before knocking back the proverbial dry Martini and heading off into the sunset with Moneypenny (and, given the saloon format’s eminent practicality, perhaps a bootful of shopping too).
Yes, the C63 AMG saloon is the car that can pretty much do anything, stealthily flying under the radar as it does so. Well, until you blip the throttle and the raucous bark from the quad tailpipes alerts everyone in the neighbourhood to your presence. This is a car that can comfortably accommodate a family of fully-grown humans and all of their gear, whisk them along the road in sumptuously trimmed and lavishly equipped opulence, and ensure that everyone has a lovely time along the way.
Alternatively, if you fancy carving up a winding country lane, mountain pass or, indeed, race track, it’ll very happily do all of that too. That devastating drivetrain mates a 469bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 (very closely related to that found in the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car) to a 7-speed auto, three-stage adaptive dampers and some utterly savage brakes to create a proper hooligan… but one that’s just as capable of being civilised and posh as it is manic and feral.
The car we have here is a sublime example of the breed. Just 29,000 miles on the clock, and it's clear to see that it’s been very thoughtfully looked after. The interior is in splendid condition, the exterior is positively gleaming, and the history file is impressive indeed. Whether you’re after a forever car for the family, a playful track toy, a weekend warrior or a GT mile-muncher, you’ll find it all within this cunning secret agent-spec Merc.

Summary
The true appeal of this Mercedes-Benz is that it’s not the obvious choice. There are certain enthusiasts who’d always walk straight past a four-door to get to a two-door coupe, although we’d counter that the more-door can be better not just for being more practical, but for feeling like the place where the smart money goes; an equally good-looking model with the same performance but a lot more versatility coupled with stealth.
Equally, there are people who will only consider a C63 S, the higher-performance variant that offers an extra 34bhp and shaves 0.2 seconds off the 0-62mph time… but are you honestly going to notice 0.2 seconds? Seems like a lot of extra money to shell out just for a pub boast. No, the clever move is to shop for condition and history rather than badging, and that lands your search squarely with this car: the condition inside and out is frankly fabulous, much better than any ten-year-old saloon has any right to be. The history file is stuffed with paperwork from Mercedes-Benz main dealers. It’s all very reassuring – and it only takes a few moments behind the wheel to realise just what an utterly incredible machine this is. The seller is very reluctant to see it go, because once you’ve had one of these cars in your life it’s hard to know what could possibly replace it. They really are that good, and this one in particular is a properly delightful example.
