Overview

When it comes to covering all your propulsion options , you can’t go much further than opting for a plug-in petrol/electric hybrid — other than fitting a mast and sails, or a small nuclear reactor. So if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t like to put all their eggs in one basket, then this Swiss army knife of a Porsche Cayenne will be to your liking. Actually, the Cayenne is built in Slovakia, rather than Switzerland, but we’re currently unaware of a Slovak-produced multitool. 

This particular Cayenne features the V6 petrol engine, which is given a helping hand by the invisible force of electricity. It features a 13kWh onboard battery, which can be charged from a normal home socket, or one of those big ones with a chunky cable (stored in the boot). Of course, if you’re going further, you can rely on instant-access petroleum spirit, which comes out of one of those nozzles on the forecourt. 

Also high on the list of goodies fitted to this car is the Sport Chrono pack, with its trademark dashboard-mounted chronometer, as well as various other performance improvements. Particularly appealing among these is the small selector on the steering wheel which allows you to choose how the car propels itself, as well as the ‘Sport Response’ button — for when you need a bit of extra grunt to get going.

And when the asphalt runs out you can choose one of four off-road options: mud, gravel, sand, or rock. The ride height is adjustable, lifting the car up with the ability to wade through 20 inches of water. So this smartly presented Porsche doesn’t have to remain a city-dweller. 

Low mileage and excellent all-round condition make this a very appealing choice if you’re needing to look smart, carry passengers, lug loads, or tackle tricky terrain. And if you are able to fit a small nuclear reactor, you’ll be able to see out the apocalypse in style and comfort.
