Overview
The R33-generation Nissan Skyline GT-R is often cited as being the ‘forgotten’ member of the GT-R family, but there’s no chance you’ll forget this one.
Sculpted (quite literally) by the minds at Japanese tuning company Do-Luck in the mid-90s following a life-changing visit to the annual Tokyo Auto Salon, the company purchased a brand-new R33 GT-R and set about creating this one-off, show-stopping example.
Whilst there are plenty of custom touches to discover, highlights include a fully custom fibreglass bodykit, gullwing-style doors (themselves requiring significant alterations to strengthen the roof), a full AAR leather interior, custom three-piece Volk Racing wheels and a full HKS RB28 engine build, which was reported to put out a ‘reliable’ 550bhp in-period.
Entered into the 1996 Tokyo Auto Salon, the car came away with the most prestigious title of all - Car of the Show - an incredible feat by any means, but especially considering the fact that this was the car’s debut appearance.
Following a period of storage in Japan after TAS, this R33 was imported into the UK by Do-Luck’s domestic distributors, Sumo Power. It was then used by EA Sports as a UK/EU promotional vehicle for Need For Speed Carbon, before seemingly disappearing into the ether for a number of years.
Purchased by the current owner 20 years ago, the car saw limited use early on in his ownership, before being put into long-term storage for the last 15 years. Now, having been given a once-over mechanically and being put through an MoT, this one-off 90s legend is now up for sale on the open market for the first time. Find another! (You can’t!)

Presents in fair condition overall, but would certainly benefit from the attentions of a detailer to bring it back to best
-
The driver’s seat shows the highest level of wear, and also exhibits a small tear
-
Both the front passenger seat and the rear bench are worn, but would likely be transformed by an experienced detailer
-
The door cards are undamaged, but require a thorough clean
-
The aftermarket steering wheel, shifter, handbrake and other high-traffic areas exhibit a typical level of wear in keeping with the rest of the vehicle
-
APEXI actuator valve controller
-
APEXI FC ECU Commander
-
HKS Gauges
-
The dashboard presents well with no rips, tears or damage
-
In the boot, the compartment has been stripped out and requires a thorough tidying
-
No reported electrical faults
Exterior
-
Unique Do-Luck fibreglass bodykit, gullwing doors and custom Image 3-piece wheels turned this R33 GT-R into a one-off show car
-
The bodywork and paint present in fair condition, though there are a few areas that require immediate attention
-
Our photographer noted that the passenger door is inoperable, and the driver’s door does not open all the way; the seller advises that he has replacement gas struts to come with the car
-
The rear bumper appears to be slightly detached aft of the N/S/R wheel, and exhibits a small scuff
-
At the front, there is the usual smattering of stone chips, as well as a large crack below the offside headlight and a few scuffs on the bumper, reportedly sadly caused by the logistics company when strapping the car down for transport
-
The offside side skirt is dented at the leading edge
-
When our photographer visited, the front offside wing was slightly detached but the owner has followed up with a picture to show it has been reattached
-
At the rear, the diffuser is chipped/damaged to the right of the registration plate, whilst there is also cracking around the rear of the O/S side skirt
-
The exhaust tip / silencer shows some surface corrosion
-
All four of the magnesium Volk Racing wheels are presentable, but would benefit from a refurbishment
- The seller reports that underneath is in “good condition” with “no signs of rust”
-
Overall, this is an icon of the Japanese tuning scene, and would be well worth the time and effort to bring it back to its best after a long period spent in storage
Mechanical
-
2.8-litre HKS RB28 inline-six engine, running circa 550bhp
-
Manual 5-speed gearbox
-
All four wheels are driven through Nissan’s ATTESA AWD system
-
Extensive works were carried out on the engine and performance system by HKS, including fitment of billet crankshaft and conrods, forged pistons, 720cc injectors, high-capacity fuel rail, custom induction system, racing intercooler and pipework, Do-Luck stainless exhaust system, and numerous supporting mods
-
In period, a pair of GT25/30 turbos were fitted, though it has been reported that these have since been replaced
-
The engine bay presents very well overall, with no signs of any issues that we can see
-
The seller tells us that the engine and gearbox are both "fantastic" with no untoward noises
Summary
Opportunities to purchase bona-fide JDM tuning scene legends, not to mention Need for Speed promotional vehicles, don’t come up very often. This is one of those rare occasions where one car actually ticks both of those boxes.
Whilst there are a few areas that will need some titivating and TLC, the cultural status of this R33 GT-R means that any efforts will be worthwhile, as this is an icon of the Japanese car scene that should be restored, fettled and showcased for years to come. Overall, it's a great opportunity to save a 1 of 1 car and to preserve it for future generations.
