Overview

The 996-era Porsche 911 has truly come of age in the last few years. Long gone are the days of these water-cooled flat-six pioneers being derided as ugly or looking too much like a soap bar; the 996 has now achieved modern-classic status amongst enthusiasts, and with good reason.

Here you have a performance car that you can use and enjoy everyday - especially in C4S guise thanks to its four-wheel-drive system - be it as a long-distance GT car, a day-to-day driver, posing around London, or showing a clean pair of heels to cars much newer and more expensive. The C4S also benefits from its wide-arch ‘turbo’ bodywork, which serves to enhance the appearance of the 996 even further - for many, it’s the pick of the bunch.

This example - finished in beautiful Lapis Blue - was purchased by the seller in December 2022, with the intention of its being a long-term member of his fleet. A subsequent round of refresh works and mechanical attention to the tune of c.£15k meant that this C4S was ready and raring to be used, but a change in circumstances means that the vendor is now downsizing his collection. The result? Your chance to purchase a 996 C4S with all the works you’d need to do - such as a suspension refresh, new clutch/DMF and more - already carried out; all you should need to do is add fuel!

Opportunities like this don’t come along all too often...

Interior

  • The interior of this 911 looks to be in excellent condition, and has aged well thanks to careful ownership over the years

  • Both front seats exhibit a pleasing level of patination, with creases to attest to use, but are free of any rips, tears or damage as far as we can see

  • The rear seats look virtually unused

  • We noted some indentations to the rear of the front seats

  • Elsewhere, the high-traffic areas are lightly worn in keeping with the car’s age and mileage but still look in good condition

  • Refinements include PSM, drivers’ seat memory function, rear window wiper

  • An aftermarket Kenwood stereo has been fitted, offering USB connectivity

  • In the front, the luggage compartment is tidy throughout

  • The original specification sticker remains affixed to the underside of the frunk - a good sign that this is the original panel

  • The seller states there are no known faults with the interior systems or switchgear

Exterior

  • Lovely Lapis Blue paintwork

  • Presents well overall with no obvious signs of impact damage or mis-aligned panels

  • The paintwork looks to be in good condition, but would benefit from the attention of a detailer to remove the swirl marks visible in direct sunlight

  • All four wheels are in excellent condition with no kerb rash, wrapped in correct Porsche N-rated Michelin Pilot Sport tyres

  • There are a few smaller imperfections noted up-close, including scratches on the mirror caps and edges of the doors, a larger chip on the roof, and light scratches on the NSR wing

  • The rear nearside light lens shows spidering and cracking

  • Both front headlights are hazy, but would likely be revived with a full cut/compounding

  • In all there’s a few areas that could be improved but it’s still a stunning looking example of a C4S

Mechanical

  • 3.6-litre, naturally aspirated flat-six engine

  • Six-speed manual gearbox

  • Power is sent to all four wheels, making the C4S ideal to be enjoyed in all weathers

  • The suspension was given a through refresh at the start of the owner’s time with the vehicle, and has seen limited use since

  • The vendor states that the car starts and stops “perfectly” with very responsive brakes

  • At the rear, the flat-six engine looks to be in good visual order with no signs of any obvious leaks or staining

  • The recent clean MoT certificate suggests that the underside is also in excellent order with no noted concerns

  • Overall, this is a well-kept example of Porsche’s popular 996 C4S with a strong history and significant recent expenditure to preserve the car’s handling and reliability

Summary

We mentioned it before, and we’ll mention it again; it’s rare to find cars such as this that have had major works and a thorough refreshment carried out immediately prior to being sold, and it’s only due to a change in the owner’s circumstances that this opportunity has come about for this 996 C4S.

As any Porsche enthusiast knows, maintaining a healthy suspension and underside is key to ensuring these 911’s can be enjoyed to the fullest extent, and the next custodian can enjoy peace-of-mind that this C4S can be driven as Porsche intended for many years to come, thanks to the extensive work carried out whilst in the care of the seller.

Offering the rare chance for one lucky bidder to obtain a recently refreshed, fettled and well-kept example of the 996 C4S finished in glorious Lapis Blue and with the desirable six-speed manual gearbox, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
