Overview

The 911 is the consummate sports car; the real ‘does it all’ of the performance car world. Want to attack a B-road at high speed? You need a 911. Want to traverse entire countries in comfort and with plenty of pace? You need a 911. Want to commute to work in style but know you can have fun if the opportunity presents itself? You need a 911. Want to … you get the point.

By the time the 997 was released in 2004, the water-cooled flat-six platform that debuted in the 996 had found its foothold amongst even the most die-hard of Porsche enthusiasts, whilst the interior design and front end were tweaked and reshaped, giving the 997 an air of refinement that is arguably beyond the 996. We think the 997 still looks fantastic even 20+ years after its release, which is testament to good design in our view!

This particular car is an example of the all-weathers, all-wheel-drive C4S, offered here in drop-top cabriolet form to make those summer evening drives even more enjoyable. With a strong history and significant expenditure in the current ownership to rectify a number of known 997 foibles (including the infamous coolant X pipes) this C4S is ready for the next owner to jump in and hit the road.

  • Full document pack
  • Collection of invoices for servicing and other works
  • Two keys
  • Current MOT expires 09 Mar 2025, a new MOT is booked so the car will be sold with 12 months MOT
  • V5 present in owner’s name, showing 4 former keepers
  • Invoice for over £11,000 worth of work by marque specialist Autoumbau Porsche, with works including coolant pipe replacement, air-conditioning condensers, radiator replacement, RMS replacement, full brake calipers, disc and wear sensor replacement, new brake lines and more
  • HPI clear
  • London ULEZ compliant

Interior

  • The interior presents in good condition overall, with a few marks and signs of age, but the level of wear is generally commensurate with the age and mileage
  • BOSE audio upgrade
  • Driver seat with memory settings
  • Both the front and rear seats show only light signs of use and patination, with no visible rips, tears or damage
  • The centre console and driver’s door card exhibit slightly heavier wear, with a number of marks and grooves worn into the leather over the years
  • The OE floor mats and stereo unit remain in place
  • We’re told that the roof “opens and closes smoothly on the switch or keys and is 100% watertight”
  • Up front, the trunk is tidy and clean throughout
  • The door trims, pull handles and high-traffic areas in the cabin are lightly worn
  • The Porsche wind deflector is present, which makes roof-down motoring far more comfortable
  • The seller states that he cannot vouch for the navigation or handsfree systems as he has not used them, but there are no other known faults
  • The original tools and tyre repair kit are included

Exterior

  • Finished in metallic black, this 997.1 C4S cuts a mean figure with the roof up or down, and looks to be in good overall condition
  • The paintwork exhibits a number of visible swirl marks in the sunlight across the bodywork, but no doubt a paint correction would remedy these
  • The front end and exposed edges exhibit the usual smattering of stone chips seen on a performance car such as this
  • At the rear, there are a number of scuffs on the nearside of the rear bumper
  • All four wheels are in excellent condition, with no signs of any kerb damage, whilst the seller reports the tyres to have “limited” levels of wear
  • Looking closer, we noted a few minor marks on the nearside door and offside front bumper corner, and some minor chips to the driver's door edge
  • The headlight and lower light lenses would benefit from a full polishing to bring them back to their best
  • We’re told that “there has been no accidents nor major bodywork done during my ownership, nor so far as I am aware, previously”

Mechanical

  • 3.8-litre M97 flat-six engine with 350bhp, driving all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox
  • The brake discs, pads and wear sensors were replaced in August 2022 during the extensive round of works carried out by Autoumbau Porsche
  • There are no known modifications fitted to the car
  • The seller reports that the 3.8-litre engine is in excellent health, that acceleration and performance (once warmed up) is as to be expected, and that the car consumes only minor amounts of oil, which is par-for-the-course on these flat-six engines
  • The underside looks to be in good condition, with no reports of corrosion on any recent MoT exams

Summary

350bhp on-tap, roof-down thrills and enough practicality and comfort that you wouldn’t think twice about heading south and aiming for the French riviera with a moments’ notice, this 2006 Porsche 911 (997) C4S has the additional benefit of all-wheel-drive, inspiring confidence in even less-than-ideal weather conditions.

With significant recent expenditure to bring the car up to an excellent standard and a strong service history, there seems to be little else for the next owner to do to this C4S other than to put some petrol in and head for their favourite road!
