Overview
Bruce Wayne once infamously asked “does it come in black?” Well, Mr Wayne, we’re delighted to tell you that yes, this thunderous bi-turbo V8 supercar does come in black. In fact it comes in black-on-black-on-black-on-more-black, with a dash of extra black for good measure and a soupçon of grey for accenting.
We’ll be honest, the idea of burbling around in a rumbling V8 sports car with the aesthetic of Batman’s weekend wheels had us intrigued. Hearing it has 510bhp on tap fully captured our attention. Welcome to this week’s most intimidatingly sable slice of sportscar: the Mercedes-Benz AMG GTS.
As an alternative to Porsche’s venerable 911, it ticks a lot of boxes. It certainly has the go and the show nailed. But it’s also exceptionally well equipped, offering the ability, should the fancy take you, to whisk your way from Land’s End to John O’Groats in utter comfort. And it’s (relatively) practical too. Don’t get us wrong, you’ll not be using it for an IKEA trip, but it has a boot which has room for actual cases and bags, not just a CD case and a pair of slippers.
This particular example has a good service record, a long MOT and a wonderful specification too. As an ‘S’ model, it offers a slug more power than the standard GT too. So, if you’re after a car that can deliver eyebrow-raising performance yet still roll up outside the Mandarin Oriental without seeming uncouth, then this could well be it.
Even Alfred might approve.
Possibly.

Summary
There’s something about a V8. Something about that off-kilter rumble that just plugs directly into the spine of any true petrolhead and fills it with shivers. Mercedes-Benz are masters of the craft too, producing some of the best engines in the world, of which this is definitely one.
But it’s not all about the engine. They’ve also wrapped that astonishingly compact powerplant in stunning bodywork that is at once modern and yet still harks back to the ‘long nose, cab back’ styling of the 50s and 60s. Add to that this car’s raft of options, features and luxuries, and it’s difficult to see what more you could want from a sporting GT.
Striking, hugely powerful and impeccably well built, this blacked-out beast is the kind of monster we’d love to find lurking in our garage.
